I then ran Windows Update and installed them all, without any of the issues, crashes or lockups I've read about. I've updated all my drivers to the latest versions, and everything is working beautifully. I've resisted the temptation to install a Start replacement so far, and will see how it goes.
I'm pretty well convinced that most people that have problems with Updates either had botched Upgrades or were using a third party anti-virus or anti-malware program that interfered.
One common problem is that many people don't disable their anti-virus when doing the upgrade, and some anti-virus products have been found to corrupt the upgrade process, creating an unstable upgrade.. it may seem to work, but slowly one problem after another starts to happen.
