Microsoft Surface trampled at the bottom of the tablet pile this Christmas

While it does have drawbacks just like anything else, Microsoft’s (MSFT) Surface is a great slate for those looking for a fresh new take on the modern tablet. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like very many people were looking for a fresh new take on the modern tablet this holiday season.

Also, Office already does the language checking automatically as well, as well as being able to translate the documents. Been that way since... maybe 2007? Not too sure.

no it don't, you have to go in the ribbon change the language, aside about the MAC, for the second time I tell you ; Microsoft have an Office version for mac too.

False. You set it up once from the Options panel to add whatever language. Restart the Office app, and it will automatically detect the language being used and switch to that. That is if you disable that option.

But seeing as the majority of users use Office in English, that's the standard default.

Did you look at my exemple, it reconize " Bonjour " "fait" and "beau, so I do what you said, it's just not usable.

did you speak another language Coke ?

As for your Majority of peoples using English, go visit India and China for fun. alltrue they don,t use all Office we need to type the document in their language if we want they understand. Think outside the box , the USA box, Coke

That's recognizable French. No other language other than French has bonjour or faire or allons or apprendre.

I imagine over in China and India, their defaults are in Chinese or Indian. It's also dependent on the default language of Windows. For example, it were in Spanish, as in the whole UI and language pack is of Spanish; other software would use that default.

Oh boy.... No I don't think everyone in China speaks Chinese. Whatever language default is on Windows is the default that other software will use? How did this become if I think people in China speak Chinese? Geez!

I don't get it.

I agree that sometimes this option doesn't always show.
One way or another, you need to get the language shown down on the word window.

Applicable to all recent versions.

And from there: select whole french text click the language and change it.

Works all the time.

that's the point, with Open Office you don't need to select the text. Anyway this was just to show that other thing than Microsoft can have nice features. If we was on a Food forum, Coke will come to every posts to tell us how Mc Donald is better than anything else, And me I will say the sunday are better at DQ and MCdo and the coffee better at..... ( I don't know i don,t drink coffee . lol )

Yeah, I like Open Office. Too bad it has its own flaws like the java dependency... but still runs.

I take offense, mcdonald's is disgusting. If anything is close to being mcdonalds, it's google docs.

For coffee, the best coffee is one that is freshly brewed from freshly ground beans with a Keurig coffee maker.

sorry for my English, but is it good or bad this comment ?

I realise your English is not the greatest Molebo, so maybe you don't realise that you're on a forum called eightforums. I take it you don't like Windows 8, if that's the case you should be on Sevenforums.

Surely you would be much better off talking to people about the advantages of Windows 7 than being on the wrong forum and talking about the disadvantages of Windows 8.

In other words you wouldn't join an Irish Club to put down Irish people that would be a bit silly.

abysmal
1. Resembling an abyss in depth; unfathomable.
2. Very profound; limitless: abysmal misery.
3. Very bad: an abysmal performance.

I bought the Surface and returned it the next day. I have Win8 on my Samsung Slate. Love it. Wanted to love the Surface but being I can't use the same sort of stylus as my Slate uses I decided against it. I love to "write" on a tablet. Too much like my iPad. Do like that it has the full version of Office, but it doesn't have Outlook and I don't like the built in mail program. Couldn't connect to my network, but didn't spend any time figuring out why being I was not keeping it. after 30 minutes I put it back in the box. Glad Best Buy doesn't charge a restocking fee.

The Surface RT doesn't have a digitizer for a Wacom stylus, that's the Surface Pro, which comes out later this month.
