surface pre order pricing

The surface pre-order pricing is out...holy crap is all I can say.

Surface with Windows RT - Microsoft Store Online

Hi there
Forget this

Get yourself a nice Acer 11.1 inch thin laptop with decent processor 8GB RAM USB3 port as well s USB2 -- much better value for money (Price shown includes the UK's Wallet busting 20% VAT which won't apply to a lot of people) and this isn't by any means the cheapest place to buy kit in the UK (currently "Cheap" in the UK is a contradiction in terms - even Germany seems cheaper ).

I can't see the Ms tablet flying off the shelves -- I know a few fanboys who always like to get new "toys" will buy these but joe public - no can't see it happening.

I can't see what this device brings to the table that the PC referred to below doesn't do far far better and CHEAPER too. (Also not much bigger -- already has keyboard etc).

I can't see anybody running photoshop on one of these tablets -- you can easily do it on the ACER. !!!!

Cheers
jimbo

HI there.
That's true but it's not even a sensible ECONOMIC DECISION -- for the same money would you buy an old Chevy Citation or a modern BMW 3 or BMW 5.

Those tablets are too expensive and too big for me. I am looking for a 7" for $200 to $250. I gues I have to go with Android - a new challenge but maybe fun.

I'm holding out for the Surface Pro as the tablet form factor is more appealing to me than a laptop. Third gen i5 processor and 64 gigs of storage, I'm totally fine.

Get yourself a nice Acer 11.1 inch thin laptop

Yea sure, you have mentioned numerous times how this laptop is almost as thin and as light as a tablet.

Acer is an incredible 20.95 mm thin and weighs in a feather light 1.38 kg.

The Surface Pro is 13.5 mm thin and weighs 907 grams and spec wise beats out your Asus as well. The only thing your Acer wins on is price, but price isn't everything, I travel a lot and the portability of the Surface Pro is one of the major things I'm looking at.

Also, if someone is looking for a tablet, why would they want the Acer laptop? It doesn't matter what it can do more of over a tablet.

Got to disagree with this sentiment. I think MS will do alright with Surface sales. The average 'Joe Public' isn't a PC power user, so won't really be aware of the advantages or disadvantages. All they know is the the 'must have' gadget nowadays is a tablet.

If you trawl round any iPad forum, one of the most commonly asked questions is "what app do I use to load my Word/Excel files, so I can edit them".

That's where MS will score sales due to Office being preloaded. 'Joe Public' wants a tablet AND wants to be able to edit MS Office files on it.

I would think the surface itself would put Jeff enough light for the midst pat to see the keys.

Backlit keyboards are a real blessing for me because my vision is really bad. I use Logitec backlit keyboards and they work very well. My Toshiba laptop also came with a backlit keyboard but that is so, so. The Sony laptop I had before was better, but there were other problems and unfortunately I had to return it.
