Sony kills Xbox One -where now for MS

Well done SONY!!!

Maybe that will help show these mega corps that users value their liberty.

Will MS take that on board for their operating systems? Only if there is a viable alternative which does not seek to control and manipulate the users.

It might be coming.

but just saying I don't like XXXX doesn't give either the Manufacturer or any prospective user any help whatsoever.

Yes it does. It is vital the complaints keep coming. It is vital they are heard.

That is how MS find out what the customers feel. Giving in is pathetic and dangerous.

Nobody is saying Ms is 100% good - but it's not (unlike some individuals who know who they are who continually say Ms is evil) 100% evil either -

Don't recall reading anyone saying 100% evil... ever...

Hi there
if you READ the post - saying you don't like XXXX FULL STOP doesn't say to the manufacturer WHY you don't like it and therefore doesn't convey anything to them.

Nothing at all wrong with complaints -- or even suggestions -- then if the company is serious about staying in business and making money it will address those complaints it can reasonably do so if it feels that there is a sufficient volume of "Customer Resistance".

Nobody for one minute is telling people NOT to complain -- what is needed is CONSTRUCTIVE criticism -- and for people to suggest switching to UBUNTU Unity is not going to happen either (and if you read some of the Ubuntu forums there's plenty of issues with THAT too).

From what I've seen so far on W8.1 is that they HAVE addressed some of the concerns a lot of people have had with W8 (not all by any means - but it's a start) so let's wait and see what W8.1 has in store for us --I'm sure there will still need things to be done to improve it as well for desktop users - but at least Ms have realized the desktop is NOT going away any time soon.

Cheers
jimbo

There are serious concerns about what MS is doing and where they are trying to lead the users. They need to stated and repeated.

That is the purpose of a forum. If you don't like what others are saying - hard luck, you will have to learn to tolerate freedom of speech.

MS might have addressed some of your concerns. They don't seem to have made any attempt to deal with the important issues.

The usual suspects are just in bed with Apple or Google. They fear the competition in the cloud and will stop at nothing to prevent MS from gaining any traction in mobile.

There is no point in arguing them any longer. Their true faces revealed, uncovered, and exposed as the true lobbyists echoing into a place that no one cares! :roflmao:

considering how great the family sharing plan is, it's surprising more people aren't in support.
You are trying to bury the crucial point.

Xbox One will remove consumer rights.

Everything else is insignificant.

You remind of the PPI missellers, highlighting all the wonderful benefits of the insurance - selling the idea of peace of mind for the Future. The downsides were barely mentioned.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

you should be ashamed for not respecting the value of money. you're clearly not a gamer. all we care about is great games and entertainment at a good value. Paying for a few games but having free access to complete libraries of your friends/family list?

do you worry that your cell phone apps will go away when there are no more authentication servers left? do you worry about your Steam games going away? do you worry about your Kindle library going away?

ever since Apple debuted the iOS marketplace, people now own licenses to use the software. they don't own the software. they own a right to use the software.

of course, you run the risk. right now, if you get a Steam ban, you lose the rights to all your purchased games. and it has happened. and the worst part about Steam is they do not give any explanation. Ban and gone. On any of the digital platforms, if you violate the terms, they reserve the right to remove it all.

So far, under the 360, for a major offense (like a modded system), they will ban the console. However, they usually leave the account untouched (because that means the person can keep buying things). As far as I know, all digital purchases made for the original Xbox are still available. You can't play the online parts because of no servers but you can still download them.

I know you're not a gamer so all this talk is truly moot for you. I doubt you know anything of what I've said due to lack of knowledge of gaming. You just want another soap box to stand on.

You don't get it. Or maybe you do and you are acting deliberately.

People have a legal right to do A.

Corporations would benefit from preventing A. They cannot change the law, so they find a way of making A useless.

It doesn't matter what A is, that is wrong.

you're not even in the gaming demographic which makes you a complete troll. you have no understanding of the gaming environment or the things a gamer uses a system for.

the simple answer is you don't like something you don't buy it. but for some reason, you find the need to try to educate people and tell people what they should and shouldn't do. activism is great at many levels. but fighting for the sake of a principle is just silly. the principle can be applied to a cell phone. you can say, heck, I want to be able to have my cell phone completely off the phone networks. sure, it's a nice principle. but that cell phone is pretty much worthless without a network. or I want my devices to not require electricity. yeah, you can do that on principle but it's pretty worthless without electricity.

I've been gaming since the Atari days. My gamerscore is over 34000. I've owned Atari machines, Nintendo machines, Sony machines, Microsoft machines, and Sega machines. What really matters is fun gaming at an affordable price that lets us play and talk to our friends.

I don't cry when I go to the movie theater and say, "man, this sucks, I paid $19 for IMAX and I can't take the movie home." keep the activism to yourself.

it's the Xbox One. of course it's a game console. defending principles for principles' sake is ridiculous. just make your stand and don't buy it. that's how you protect your principles. teaching your children your beliefs is how you protect your principles.

going from one rooftop to another shouting how people need to be educated is not the way to do it. you overestimate the importance of the Xbox One. it will not mean the death of anything. it's one device among many devices on the market. it will not destroy the planet. it will not turn us all into communists. it will not destroy the personal computing world. consoles are a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things. You look at the Wii, 360, and PS3 this generation and they sold a combined 260 million over 8 YEARS. 330 million PCs are sold YEARLY. It's really not that big of a deal. Most of the world moves along not knowing a console exists.

are you going to stop eating meat because animals are being cruelly treated? are you going to stop buying personal goods because there are people starving and destitute in the world? are you going to stop using cars because of the pollution they create?

you create a thread about the Xbox One and say this thread is not about gaming??? there are political forums you can join to talk about the death of consumer rights and how Microsoft is out to destroy you. But because you hate Microsoft, you have to create a thread that you yourself said is not about gaming but rather a principle that you feel you must act upon. have you seen how many hate threads you've created lately? what happened to computing and helping people fix their problems?

Microsoft is doing? You should open your eyes to the real world because everyone is doing it and have been doing it for years. Sorry to inform you but you are 15+ years too late in your quest to steer people away from Big Brother. The only way you won't be part of it is to unplug.

Hi there
Simple answer to the thread

Look at what the Market feels about Ms -- stocks at 52 week (or near) high in spite of recent falls in the Market. Sony has been in TERRIBLE of late and is STILL leaking money at a prodigious rate -- only its Movie tie up are keeping it afloat. Nobody even buys SONY TV's anymore - Samsung etc have taken over that market - and the Walkman and Minidisc died a long time ago. Had it been a US corporation it would have died a long time ago or been taken over.

I'd rather base my sentiments on what the Market feels rather than on some people who seem to think that whatever Ms does / makes / tries to do it's all hopeless.

Have a look at the chart (enc). Look also at the ATR (Average true range).

This isn't a graph of a company in trouble. !!!

Cheers
jimbo

Hi there
Yes of Course it will just for Games just as a Pickup will clobber a Ferrari when you need it for hunking loads of gear around.

However the XBOX is much more useful for OTHER THINGS too and that's where it will score as it's not a purely 100% gaming device.

If I were even remotely interested in gaming which I'm not (unless I'm in a Casino) I'd certainly choose the Sony over the Xbox - but for other things as an Entertainment centre, and a competant SERVER too I'd go for the Xbox.

Fashions change -- when the Sony games for the PS4 get tired and stale and the device old the XBOX will still be working just fine in the roles I've mentioned.

Cheers

You might as well tell MS they are 15 yrs too late in their scroogled campaign against Google practices.

MS are being called names for doing that.

Maybe you could suggest they just not use Google services and shut up and go away.
