Having same problem
I'm kind of disappointed to see this hasn't been addressed, beyond somebody (and I mean no disrespect to that person) who is a Win 7 user and admits to not knowing how to fix Win8.
Why has no one familiar with Win 8 or 8.1 weighed in on this problem. I would really appreciate any help.
On another forum (not sure if I can say where) there were quite a few people with the same problem (including me).
Most of their problems were when they updated to Win 10. I haven't updated and not sure I want to.
But I share the same problem of black screen when booting, then HP Logo and waiting symbol, black screen again. Sometimes HP Logo again and then it says 'wait' then black screen and then my sign in. Once it boots then everything is fine and no further problems unless I restart or shut down until the next time I turn it on again.
I have fast boot enabled in my Power settings. It used to fast boot with NO problems. Super fast.
Unplugged the only peripheral I have, which is a cd/dvd player, since my internal player has not worked for a long time.
Haven't installed any new programs.
Suggestions on other forum were to update BIOS or reset CMOS. And I'm not sure which I should do since I'm running Win 8.1 and I didn't get the clicking noises that they described. Just everything else lol.
I've run down pretty much everything in my system that I can think of or know how to do.
My drivers are all updated and when I ran a 'run' command for 'msinfo32', every single category that lists whether something should be wrong was "OK". I've checked my device manager and no conflicts or anything that wasn't running correctly. Double checked all drivers.
Any help or suggestions would be great appreciated. I believe I got all my system info correct when I registered.
ETA: I forgot to add. During this process I get no error messages whatsoever.
