Wait until Windows 13 is ready.

I actually like Startisback better than start8. I have them both on two separate machines
Startisback allows you to trial it for 30 days and if you purchase it is $3 for 3pcs and $5 for 5 pcs. Also you can configure it to put the task bar on the metro screen
As for which OS to get, right now win7 is still more stable then 8. I would wait till all the bugs are out of 8.1 before putting it on
If you are a tinkerer, then go with 8.1 because Microsoft is forcing one eventually to go on it or you will not be able to do security updates. Microsoft is still supporting win7 for at least 4 more years, maybe longer unless they finally get it right and people start loving their OS again

Yah, that is Thinix, I installed that first thing. Start8 does more of what I want.

I used StartisBack for a few days, I liked it, but again, Start8 allows me to do more of what I want. I like Classic Shell - I use it to get rid of the :Breadcrumbs" in my Explorer Address Bar so that it shows the location by Path instead of Crumbs.

Breadcrumbs are Crummy!

Got my Windows 8 laptop last week. Have it looking and acting like Windows 7 (Minus Aero) thanks to IObit Start and other tweaks.

If I do switch to Metro the only tile there is the Desktop one. :)

I don't need or want Metro on a 17.3" laptop (desktop replacement) without touchscreen. Have to say it boots very fast with the new UEFI bios. So far, with it turned into 7 feel and look, I like it.

Finally did it, bought a copy and upgraded to 8.0 then subsequently to 8.1 (couldn't wait). The upgrade from Windows 7 did take quite a long a long time though. :)

I managed to reinstall Windows Gadgets via some mod and all my gadgets work flawless except for a GPU monitoring tool (throws a System.Runtime.InteropServices error - Net 3.5 related? )

All the touch crap is now disabled via Start 8, it's surprising how MS wants to lock users & force them to buy 3rd party tools to restore basic functionality.

Edit: Is the WMC upgrade really worth it? If so when will the store purchases be available? (Online purchases not possible in my region :( )

Aw, ya should have stuck with 8, at least for a while to get used to it and use it as bridge to learning 8,1.

If ya dont like 8.1 - And it IS more restrictive for me, you can go back to 8 but you'd have to do a fresh reinstall.

The reason why I stick with 8 is because it is rock solid for me, and 8,1 is not, and I have the latest evaluation. If the 8.1 release is as good as 8, maybe I'll do it. But 8, despite all of the bad I had been told, is easy to use and modify. But I still to this date have not been able to sell it to a single one of my customers. So I used all the licenses I had for myself heh.
