Should I upgrade from 8 to 8.1?

If you use a Microsoft account, you should.
If you love to use a Local account, you shouldn't

You don't need a Microsoft account. You can skip creating an MS account and continue using your local account. I know cos I'm using local on 8.1 after the upgrade.

Besides, you can always switch from MS account to the local one after the update.

I would wait. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I myself have updated to 8.1 without any problems. But I am not really doing any useful work with it. Windows 8 is sitting in a virtual partition for study purposes only.

Hi there
Normally true - but if we adopted this philosophy completely we'd still be using Rotary wired telephones and Windows 98 - the first PROPER version of Windows really robust enough for LAN's etc.

(actually I still have BOTH of these working at home too !!)

Cheers

Reasons why you should.. Windows 8 won't be supported forever. IE11 will not be available on Windows 8 (you have to upgrade to 8.1 to get it).

Windows 10 will be out long before support for 8 ends.
IE11...??? I don't use it myself, so I can't comment.
