Semi-working? Asus Fn Keys

Already tried

Hi guys, I have ASUS K53SV and my Hotkeys didn't work too. So I've downloaded ATK driver for ASUS K53SM from : ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support- and now it works. I hope that it'll help to all of you and good bye fellers

Hi,

Was this that you downloaded?

Version V1.0.0023
asus_download_arrow002.gif
Description
ATKACPI driver and hotkey-related utilities

I already tried this, moreover I have V1.0.0025 as well, doesn't work either.

How the hell does it work for you? :)

Adaz

P.S.: Just realized, that I opened the en-us page. With cs-cz it shows totally different drivers, but these are quite old (V1.0.0010 is the newest). So which one did you download?

Hi, I got the same exact problem even with V1.0.0027 driver on my asus u36sd, you can try this driver if it would fix it for you but I doubt that. So I'm also looking for solution.

Is your boot screen bright? Maybe the backlight or backlight inverter went bad?

Hi,
Recently did a clean install of windows 8 on my Asus K53SV and the function keys work fine except for the brightness keys.
Actually, at first i loaded the windows 7 atk package and the brightness keys worked but the volume ones didn't then i got the latest atk package and now the brightness ones don't work (the lower brightness one just dims my monitor a bit and the increase brightness just makes it brighter a bit but doesn't change the brightness value) and the volume ones do.

I searched around for solutions; tried different atk packages and I really dont want to do another clean install, so is there a way to fix this?
I don't really need it as brightness is easy to adjust but it is useful to have.

Finally found the solution!!! Just installed drivers from Windows 7 now every key is working perfectly x64

Thank you nshamsiddin, but I already tried this one, and every other one they released. It's kinda weird that it works for you, it's one of the oldest drivers. I'm pretty sure that the newer drivers will work for you as well. But I'd really like to know why!!
Which version of Windows 8 you have? I'm using Enterprise x64.

I have also W8 x64 Enterprise installed, laptop is K53SC, and also I've tried all new versions e g 1.0.00.25 but then had the same problem with semi working keys. Try unistalling your current driver and install this one just in case, maybe it will work...

Thanks, but it always requires to uninstall the old one, so I did it of course.
I have K53SV. It has GT 540M, and yours has GT 520MX, but I don't know if that counts or not. Probably it does...

IT WORKS!!!!!!

Solution: First I installed the newest Intel HD Graphics 3000 driver (9.17.10.3062), restarted, uninstalled ATK Package 1.0.00.23, restarted, then installed 1.0.00.10, restarted, and it works!!! Even Win8 on-screen indicator is displayed!
Thank you
nshamsiddin! Probably I would have tried to install the newest ATK Package, and it's possible that it would not have worked, but I don't want to try that! :)

Is it possible that you already tried it with 9.17.10.3062? Is it possible that Intel resolved this Win8 issue?

No I don't think so couse I didn't install HD Graphics driver at all, it is included to Windows DVD and it was automatically installed with Windows and I think this is not a new driver...

no matter what I do atk drivers (new or old, win 7 or win 8) are still bad: pressing FN + brightness more than 3-4 times I get no response from atk hotkey. after a while show "last command" on screen and that's all. after a few minutes the process can be repeated. and I don't think is related to video card; only if those drivers are broken too...
latest atk drivers for win 8 are not so annoying like others. (asus u36sd, win 8 pro with media center)

I find a working version of ATK for my K53SJ, but now I have a different problem.
When I press F5,F6 on my screen appears a little box with progress of volume.

Is there a way to disable it and leve only ASUS On-Screen animations ?

Thanks, for the tip but it didn't work for me.
Maybe you have a different version of BIOS ?

Some of ASUS laptops has a BIOS update for brightness control in Win8

Mine is 209, so it's a little old.
Did you updated your BIOS ? I'm afraid that I may broke my laptop during the BIOS update.

I think that this update may resolve my FN keys problem under Windows 8 but I'm not sure.
Is it worth the risk ?
