Hi guys,
I know we've beaten this one a lot before, but I have some questions.
I've just moved to 8 as my primary OS, and I love it, but I'm having the same search issues I've had in windows before.
Now, before you say, "Install blah de blah third party search app!", Please know, I don't want to do that. I don't like opening one application to search files. I want to be able to search from my file explorer. Sorry, I'm stubborn, and I like things to work in a specific way. I hate the idea of having to open an app to search for files.
So that brings up a few questions.
Firstly; I've found that if the index is turned off, I don't have search issues. I can search any drive and find my files. I'm wondering if there is a reason for this, if there is a fix, and if not:
- is there a way to disable the windows message that "searches might be slow because index is not running"? I'm fine with no index, if I can search my damn files as a result, but I hate that message.
Next up; as to third party search replacers; is there ANY way to simply replace the search in windows explorer with another app? Probably not, but if so, I would love to find out about it.
And finally - is there a goddamn way to make the index work properly? Yes, I realize it's always been screwy, but I've seen it work just fine on many old systems of mine.
Input appreciated. Thanks!
