I upgraded xp to 8 using the cheap online download. Of course I had to stay with 32 bit and load 8 ontop of xp although deleting the windows old files was not difficult. I believe that the xp product key is now invalidated when 8 is loaded. At the time I did not save the 8 download but just proceded to load 8. The only backup option I used was to make a usb win 8 recovery on a stick. What I would like to know is in the event of a hdd failure could I reload 8 using the recovery usb stick ,not having xp any more. I seem to have missed my chance to make a proper win 8 boot disk. As I registered with Microsoft at the time does this mean that they will allow a reload?
