It's infinitely continuing the "checking apps and devices" part of the compatibility check. I haven't been able to run many program installations either since I installed the Consumer Preview. I was excited to get rid of it for the Release Preview, but then it happened again. I'm going to probably use the ISO like I did for the Consumer Preview (My computer which had been running Developer's Preview was asking for the disk to fix the installation, and when I went to download the setup again, hoping it would work, I found that the newer version was out, so I HAD to use the ISO). I guess I've been forced into it again, but the download's taking a while, so meanwhile, does anyone know how I can get the Installer to work?
Most of us here Win8 RP is working but we need to take risk for drivers that are (later version) might not work as we expected. Even I, got some issues with my driver and to take considerations that will RUN only in Win7 OS. Platform of x32 or x64 is another one to give attention and might not work as well.
However, try the guide we suggest and let us know what is the out come of the installation.

I tried to do an install using the iso, thinking that I'd be able to keep my files in Windows.old, but I was not, so I must wait until I get an external hard drive. le sigh
I do know how to install with an iso. As I said, I've done it before. I could have installed it, but, obviously, I don't want 600 GB of Personal files to be deleted.
Edit:
What is this part?:

It made no grammatical sense, and therefore no sense.
Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Search (or if you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Search), enter Computer in the search box, tap or click Apps, and then tap or click Computer.
Double-tap or double-click the drive that Windows is installed on (typically, the C: drive).
Double-tap or double-click the Windows.old folder.
Double-tap or double-click the Users folder.
Double-tap or double-click your user name.
Open the folders that contain the files you want to retrieve. For example, to retrieve files in the Documents library, double-click Documents.
Copy and paste the files that you want from each folder to a folder in Windows 8 Release Preview.
Repeat steps 5-7 for each user account on your computer.
