Refresh function broken since upgrade to 8.1

There are no games, just the operating system. It had previously been registered, so I didn't repeat that.
Thanks for your help

I meant to say "Did you Register the Software (Microsoft Windows 8 [although it often works like a puzzle game]).

All I do is reboot, and Windows 8 asks me every time If I want to update to Windows 8.1

I give it the middle finger back for wasting my time.

Why would I update to something that wrecks my DVD set from working to Repair/Refresh my PC (the additional crime Microsoft keep secret about)?

Turns out the upgrade to Windows 8.1 isn't a single download, but a series of 5 updates. They finally each appeared, and I was able to perform the update and am now running 8.1 again! Thanks for the help - I consider this issue closed.
