I've found that having the same background for the start screen and desktop really unifies the whole OS.

My thoughts exactly!
Me too. :ditto: Nice samst22 and Coke. I posted a real, in a way, start screen in post #327 (sort of a joke). But, here is a snip of my start screen when not using RDC from a Mac. As with you two, it uses my desktop background as the start screen background. I have attached a snip of my desktop background too. And, finally, I have posted a snip of my actual desktop. Obviously, I haven't changed anything about my start screen except its background. Note the desktop tile on the start screen. Let's here it for integration.

you guys are using Decor8 to change the start screen background, correct? what happens to the picture when you have a long desktop? does the picture just stay static and the tiles scroll?

also, I use Display Fusion Pro for my desktop monitors and it can automatically cycle through a predefined list of wallpapers at regular intervals. is there a feature like that for Decor8?

Yes, most of us are using Decor8. If you have a long Start Screen, Decor8 has an option where it can set it to do a parallax scroll, it's kind of odd when you don't use a stretched out background as it'll scroll the image a bit. I personally just keep the background image static and set the option to use the Desktop wallpaper, which is in a slideshow. You also can use it to make your own slideshow separate of the Desktop.

They're all Desktop apps, they're all the same color. :)

Pretty much. Dark red was already my chosen colour set so I picked a picture to compliment it, and just to correct myself it's 'Windows 8 Start Screen Customiser', I couldn't find the other one. It's at Windows 8 Start Screen Customizer | Windows 8 Themes

Capture- start screen customiser.PNG

It's fairly easy to use. You load your picture and tweak the settings, you can even have the tiles blended through your image. Fair warning, you have to do a pretty precise shape for it to fill your entire start screen and like I did, pick a picture and colour screen that match.
