Here's my new desktop. I chose green as my theme color. It's a cheerful color.

Screenshot (47).png

Here it is with my daily Bing pic background and with my tiles. I like how it scrolls and gives me personal info via live tiles.

Screenshot (67).png

And here is my Desktop app (aka desktop portal) being closed by holding the WinKey, pressing the period key, then pressing the down arrow, and finally releasing the WinKey. It can also be closed by dragging it down. Notice the same cheerful green background during the process?

I'm using UltraUXThemePatcher along with TaskbarBlurToggle and Start8 trial, will switch to classicshell once the trial runs out

Theme: Verbum Honoris by gor17981 ported to Windows 8.1 Update 1 by Lamia
Start menu : StartisBack
Rainmeter: Combination of Simple Weather & Badclock modified by me.
Dock: RocketDock, Skin: Verbum Honoris , Dock Icons: F Icons by Try4Ce

The nice thing about the themes posted by myself and chevy350 are they do not require 3rd party software to run which in return means there are no system resources required to run them unlike Window Blinds which must run in the system tray and uses a considerable amount of resources in order to run their themes.

:p I'll do anything to put Stardock products down ... hehe!

And I used to have Windowblinds on my store-bought PC before my new custom built PC.. :p Had problems a looonnnggggg time ago when they first started out, but right before my HDD went out on the Dell everything worked perfectly.. :p

How does the skinning work with the one you use? You have a link for reference so I can check them out? I'd Google it, but last thing I Googled from a title from someone's suggestion led to a refreshing of Windows.. o_O You obviously have it working, so I'd like to check it out straight from the pages you used to get the nice skinning you got :) Don't really care about the start menu, I like the way 8.1 operates, one of the minor few who do lol.. Docks don't interest me neither, that's what the Start bar is for :)

There is no reason whatsoever that one would need third party software in order to run custom themes.
Stardock tried to corner the market with Window Blinds to run custom themes but there were a few that were smarter than them ...

You can find everything you need to know and customize without the use of Window Blinds at Virtual Customs
Tell them Dark Knight sent you.

Nice.. I need to look those up.. Your dock is by Winstep? Or a diff one?

Been using RocketDock for years, the dock skin was included with the theme ;) and Virtual Customs is a good place to start, lots of talent over there

I joined but it won't let me post.. Says error and I can't post links until I've posted 5 posts, but I didn't post any links.. Can't reply to anything neither.. Shame, looked like a good place to join..

EDIT: Got it working.. Can't post without mod approval though.. That kinda sucks a bit..

EDIT 2: Got the patcher then realized you have to go through hoops to skin your system, including downloading and installing all sorts of mods and extra programs/apps.. The whole point of using the patcher was not to use third-party software to be able to skin. This is doing exactly that with all you gotta' download to get it skinned. Sure, the skinning doesn't hang with an open program to keep it skinned, but everything else you have to download to make it work are running in the background. I may as well go with WindowBlinds :p

The only thing you are installing outside of the theme is Ultra UXTheme Patcher so you can use 3rd party themes in Windows, everything else is optional according to what you want, if you enjoy the ribbon on Windows 8.1, fine, then don't use the ribbon disabler, if you like the look of Windows 8.1 file explorer then don't use OldNewExplorer, don't want the aero glass effect? then don't install AeroGlass. The tools listed in the theme packages are for those that want their systems to look as close as possible to Windows 7. Essentially the only thing you need to do in order to run 3rd party themes is to install Ultra UXTheme Patcher.

Does UXTheme Patcher run in the background? no, you can verify that for yourself in the Windows 8.1 task manager should you decide to install it.

Installing these tools is a one time deal, you don't have to install or uninstall them every time you add or change themes, it's a once and done deal, you make it sound like such a big deal when if done right really is not. If installing a patcher and copying two items to your C:\Windows\Resources\Themes folder is hard then I have been doing it this way way too long because I can do it pretty much with my eyes closed now.
In my mind, I would rather do it that way on any day of the week and twice on Sundays rather than have any Stardock product suck the life out of my system ..... but you do what you want.

P.S. - I've yet to see any Stardock Window Blinds theme that can even come close to holding a candle compared to what these guys are doing at Virtual Customs but then again building a theme is easy with Window Blinds because all it really is nothing but point and click, these guys at Virtual Customs build these themes from the ground up, yes they make every single part of the theme from scratch...... but that is just my opinion.

Oh, I'm very very messy :D :D I always (try to) clean my desktop, and in the end it always ends up like this... oh, well.... :D

Omg Alex . Just put everything in a folder and you ll be fine! Something like this:

or not? lol

Welcome to Windows EightForums, alex95sv and AlanMcJ.

Lol, alex95sv. That reminds me of my W7 desktop and so many others' I’ve seen. That’s one of the reasons why they created the Start Screen. To eliminate the clutter and to organize in personalized columns. Yes?

At least take AlanMcJ’s advice. :thumb:

Does this look familiar to you?

Then tell me why when I just tried to get the themes to work that my computer suddenly started blinking a pop up saying DWM incompatible, then locked up my computer to the point I had to manually shut down.. Then got stuck in reboot, wouldn't let me do a repair, almost wouldn't let me do a refresh of my system saying my drive was locked?? Finally got it to come back with a refresh after fooling the system a bit by popping in an old corrupted HDD and changing some settings in my bios to finally recognize my main HDD as unlocked and refresh the system, which refreshing just killed ALL my drivers and programs. Yes, this "easy" themer is so worth it. I say hell no!
