I was working on my computer editing music when suddenly all sound stopped. If I go into the sound mixer from the taskbar there is nothing listed under applications under speakers. If I plug headphones in sometimes Chrome shows up under applications, sometimes it doesn't.
Right now headphones are not plugged in but Chrome is still listed under headphones and not speakers. Earlier today it wasn't playing music through the headphones either. There doesn't seem to be any pattern for this to happen.
I have already updated all drivers, restarted the computer multiple times and run diagnostics from Dell's website (the computer is a Dell Inspiron N5110). the audio diagnostic failed at the microphone testing stage and wouldn't let me get any further with the tests. I have even performed a boot-scan with Avast Antivirus to make sure it's not a virus that is messing with my system, but to no avail.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
