I agree about Player.Actually I found another reason not to use Hyper-V.... no USB Support.
I am trying to work with VMWare Player now. I have used it in the past and have not been dissatisfied.
It is better, more stable than VBox.
The portable version works but with limited support. However, if you just need a VM software, I do recommend VBox as you can find an application that will make it run as a portable software and carry your VM's on an external HDD. Which is awesome.
USB support works fine if you RDP to the machine, but yes, the vmconnect application/viewer does not pass through - there's a reason for this, but suffice to say you would need to RDP to the machine to get USB (and audio) support.
If you use this sound - USB - graphics configuration in VM's often then you're better with VMware Player but if you need to run things quickly and no sound or USB is needed then Hyper-V is alright.

with Hyper-V you have sound, you just have to enable audio over RDP , Anyway Hyper-V is design to work with RDP not directly in the Management Tools, it's suck too much
