I am trying to do a Windows update. It starts and stays at 0%. Did that for 5 minutes, tried again and no go.
Windows updates sometimes seems to stall at 0% for a while and suddenly jumps. As long as you see the progress bar changing color across then it is working.

Next, I suggest to download: WhatInStartup - Disable/delete programs at Windows startup
Again. This program is small and does not need to install. Run it, The result will be almost identical to what you see in the Task Manager. However, It does show you detailed info about each entry in the startup, where is it located in the HD and in the registry, who develops it etc... Right click on it->Google, you'll even get more details and recommendation whether you need it or not.

In addition, Download Startup Delay Time - Reduce in Windows 8 and merge it into the registry.

Please report back again. Thanks

Windows Paint is good to paste your screen capture in.
I used it for years.
Now I use the Desktop app from Postimage.org - free image hosting / image upload

screenshot_282.jpg

I keep it on the Taskbar for ease of use.

screenshot_282.jpg

To get a screenshot I press the Print Screen key or ALT+Print Screen-{for active window} & click the Post Image icon-

screenshot_282.jpg

When I'm done with it I click "Upload" & it is uploaded & a dialog window appears where I can copy the image's url-

screenshot_282.jpg

In the upload window I copy the address-

screenshot_283.jpg

Then here I click the "Insert Image" icon--

screenshot_283.jpg

& paste in the copied url & attach it--

I have the image type set as .jpg in the Post Image settings-

Hope this helps you to post screenshots.

OK.
There is a free version & a paid version.
I use the paid version because it keeps all of my uploaded images forever.
The free version is good too, though limited in function.
It was cheap.

What i do, keep notes to remember things i learn for next time. Let's see how it goes with the program Topgundcp recommended shows as after removal of programs do not need next step is to eliminate startups.
Can also do maintenance, after removal of software and doing updates, use disk cleanup and even this program
CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download clean history, cache and temp files. Defrag the hard drive after that.

Do yourself a favor, my opinion, get rid of AOL software unless use it a lot to me it's a security risk or definitely disable the startups, i see 3 there.
Pokki Start menu do you use this, do not think need to have it check for updates on every start.
Epson status monitor 3 might be way to disable this through software, check notification area for icon, right click it, option to remove startup icon, not needed to run every start of laptop.

Realtek Audio manager again just most likely putting the icon in notification area for easy access even though can get it in the Control panel, not needed to start on boot, go to control panel find an option to remove icon from notification area or disable from task manager, no ill effect on sound.
Might be same way for Catalyst control panel for AMD video adapter, be in notification area, can try software right clicking screen or in notification area to try there to disable the startup or do it in the task manager again.

Synaptics touchpad startup is low resource, so not sure if need to disable that startup if may have affect on features of touchpad or not, as may find that in notification area or control panel look through it's settings.

Not sure about Broderbund, what that is doing for you, see it on the taskbar now. Or even not sure what the HP accelerometer is yet.
Think but need to know more about disabling the Flexera one.

Mostly items listed High and medium have more impact on start up in task managers start up tab.

Second picture shows disabled most. My feelings is first need to get to know all you have when you buy a laptop, familiarize yourself with all the software. Then you can know what you need running and what you do not. As if you start to disable certain things you may come to find out you may not be able to as it may effect the software or hardware device that need it running. Same goes for uninstalling software quickly, since Laptop is new to you as the software is, unless you have had it before or know right off something do not want on it.

Not sure about Broderbund, what that is doing for you, see it on the taskbar now. Or even not sure what the HP accelerometer is yet.

I use The Printmaster/Broderbund program several times a day. I do crafts and it helps me create them. yes i know there is no support for it and it was discontinued in 1999 but it is has 300 files on it and they will not work with anything else Broderbund makes.

Think but need to know more about disabling the Flexera one.

Some of the software we don't really know and never heard of. That's the reason I asked you to download "What is in startup". It does show the same thing as task manager. However, if you right click on the selected item->Google for executable, It will give you more info and you are the only one to decide whether you need it or not.

BTW, did you take a look at the previous post that I suggest to merge the registry: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/37373-startup-delay-time-reduce-windows-8-a.html

I did download the "What is in start-up. will right click it and see if I can make a decision to keep it or delete it.

I am not sure that I will be able to run the "
Startup Delay Time - Reduce in Windows 8". Might run it by hubby. I was told NEVER to go into the registry.

Thanks so much for all your patience and help...I really appreciate it.....

Just an FYI, for the ones you said you use, you can still use those things without them starting at startup.

True, for AOL what do you use it for exactly, browsing, AOL E-Mail you can do that in any browser go to AOL.com, use Firefox, IE, Chrome and Opera. Talk about a resource hog AOL, known people to get viruses and were hacked from it, but it's your choice, just a suggestion. Just disable the startups won't affect it and if it does renable it.

I have an Epson Printer so i know this one is not needed to start up, check notification area for it when printer is running.Find it in the settings or options area.

Yes,synaptics leave it alone, probably do need it for functionality for touchpad.

Catalyst Control panel, believe disabling it will just remove the start up not disable the video adapter, always renable it.

Yes familiar with some broderbund products, old, but useful, not positive about startup item to tell you to disable it.

Do more research again on Flexera, but gave you article on it. Your most welcome !!
