Mozilla developing Metro-specific Firefox for Windows 8

They say HERE that FireFox 14 will be ready for win 8, but they have FireFox 14 out on their nightly builds HERE, but I haven't tryed it.

Remember, the currently Nightly build is not the same as the Metro build. Right now they're built on quite different platforms. My understanding is, we'll see an Alpha or maybe Beta build of Metro firefox around the same time as firefox 14 is released, which will be July 17th.

How you took snap of this forum.
Did Firefox with metro available for download.

The Metro build is available from the link I posted earlier - Windows_8_Integration about half way down the page under the heading Metro Test Install.

Direct Link - 3-30 Fennec for Metro Rel, non-opt

I downloaded and I installed it but it doesn't open at all. :(

You'll need to have a standard desktop version of firefox installed and you'll need to be using an x64 build of Windows 8

It fits in with the other Metro apps.
It looks horrible (it is probably lacking all the useful functions of the desktop version). :(

It's still very early days and more a POC than anything else right now.

Hi there.
If that's all they have come up with I'm glad I'm sticking with IE. I can't see ANYBODY's appetite being whetted by those pics.
Firefox need to hire some Marketing guys PDQ I reckon.

Even a POC should show the possibility of Multiple Windows on a PC in Metro.

Firefox was great back in the old "Mozilla- Netscape" days -- but a bit like Nero they bloated it too much with myriads of "plug ins" and endless set of "preferences / options" or whatever.

Also unless any of these Metro browsers can show me at least TWO different Windows on the same screen of two different sites then it's NOT what I want or need on a desktop. - Might be fine having a single screen on a small smartphone or tablet -- but on a decent 60 inch LCD -- C'mon developers --have you left your brains behind on Planet Pluto or something.

I'll almost prophecy " Firefox on Windows R.I.P. Circa 2013 A.D". There will be Linux uses etc but I can't see this being very decently Windows User friendly especially with Multiple monitors and LARGE SCREENS.

Please everybody -- not everyone is going to run apps on a Mobile phone all the time. If W8 is designed as a Mobile phone / tablet OS so be it -- but since it WILL run on a "Proper" computer then it should behave like "proper computer apps" and allow multi windowing.

Cheers
jimbo

Blame Microsoft, it's their limitation.

The only "bloat" is what you choose to add.

See above.

Why would you believe firefox on Windows will be dead in a years time, just because we will have Metro? Perhaps Chromium and all it's clones will be dead on Windows too and we mustn't forget Opera and safari...

Please everybody -- not everyone is going to run apps on a Mobile phone all the time. If W8 is designed as a Mobile phone / tablet OS so be it -- but since it WILL run on a "Proper" computer then it should behave like "proper computer apps" and allow multi windowing.

Agreed. I hope Microsoft are listening.

As long as you can still get a proper (desktop) version, Firefox should still exist.

I think that we can assume that MS will ignore everyone, until the "red ink" starts flowing.
Then they'll probably blame Internet piracy.

I have been loyal to microsoft ring from MS DOS days.

The windows 95 GUI change I feel was accepted because it was truyl revolutionary and also back then there wasnt many computer users compared to now days, in particular windows users.

This feels like tho we going back to windows 1, its regressive on a desktop computer.

I respect microsoft need to break into the mobile market but pushing this on corporate and desktop I think is a huge mistake from them. This firefox app only highlights that, it looks very plain and downgraded. Also i hope they not going to do what android is doing with the silly new OS every 1-2 years as I defenitly dont like how fast windows 8 has came out since windows 7.

It does look like it is developing well, but I could never use a browser without all my bookmarks available 100% of the time as I have it now above opened pages in regular FF - and I could never use a browser that you have to scroll left and right to access stuff.

Also, I could never use a browser where the tabs aren't seen 100% of the time.

So not for me. Maybe others will like it.
