Microsoft's 128GB Surface Pro sells out within hours

Just hours after Microsoft Surface Windows 8 Pro went on sale Saturday, the 128GB version of the tablet sold out online.

Shoppers for $1000 tablet at the online outlets of Best Buy and Staples, as well as Microsoft's own web store, began seeing "not available" or "out of stock" notices just hours after midnight Eastern Time when the Windows 8 slate went on sale

Why does a fictional non existent iWatch and non existent iTV get good press

Might it just be because the company that will be delivering them has a great rep. There is some excitement and expectation they will deliver something special. That is because they are very good at delivering what the customers want.

This idea of giving the customers what they want seems to be very difficult for you to understand.

If you offer something they don't want - or a lot of them don't want - then they won't buy it. ( Unless they don't really have choice. )

When I say customers - obviously that isn't every being on the planet - I have never bought anything from Apple at all.

Huge numbers of people do, and a lot look forward to what they will come up with next.

Have you ever noticed that over 90% of the negative stuff is almost completely the same, word for word

If that is true - then it should give an indication of what the problems - the repellants - the dealbreakers are.

If that was a Microsoft watch they'd all be laughing and joking about it and calling it the next Zune.

If MS ( or any other comapny ) manages an impressive run of delivering what people want - then they too will elicit this kind of interest at a forthcoming release.

I've got a bit of Apple stuff, I can assure you there's nothing magical about it, it's plagued by the same problems as any other stuff. Software problems on IOS are more frequent than on Android, on top of that you are completely locked into the ecosystem.

The only reason I buy some of it is to see for myself what's it's like, so I can talk about it without making stuff up. I could never exist on Apple stuff alone and I doubt many can, hence the reason for their still 7% Mac market share.

They don't build what people want, they build what they want and people accept it. When the iPhone 5 came out I was willing to buy it if it was okay, it wasn't, I didn't buy it, it's way behind other phones, it's also plagued with numerous problems, but the fanboys don't care.

The iPad Mini is a low resolution piece of crap, mine sits in the cupboard collecting dust, I might use it on my next trip because its light, if I don't buy something else in the meantime.
The iPad3 and beyond are quite good machines, but it's frustrating not to have USB and a proper file system among many other things PC owners take for granted.

The MacBook Pro Retina is the most overpriced piece of junk I've ever seen, it's slower than a Netbook with Vista. I hang around Apple Stores quite a bit and get to know some of the Geniuses even they admit they wouldn't pay full price for it because its too slow to run Retina.

Please don't tell me about Apple, I know all about Apple and their tax evasion schemes.

Do you know that most Apple people think they're only paying $200 for an iPhone5.

I don't know if anyone has noticed, you can't really miss it, but just about every major news site is talking about the iWatch, the iWatch for Gods sake. Nobody knows anything about it yet they're all saying its going to be the next big thing. If that was a Microsoft watch they'd all be laughing and joking about it and calling it the next Zune.

Microsoft already attempted the watch, and it didn't work

Like I said to Nighthawk the other day, that will NEVER happen. Have a look at the Surface Pro what's wrong with that, it's the first full computer on a Tablet, are the bloggers impressed no, they continually mock it.
One blogger said it should have had an Atom chip another said it should have an i7, they couldn't just be happy with an i5. One guy said it was too much future, what is that.
I think the only reason Microsoft survives is because of gamers and techies, they lead the way and buy MS stuff and help to make it popular. The same way the Internet became popular, through techies and gamers and porn. Microsoft has never had the luxury of having good press and yet they command over 90% of the market, no thanks to the press.

Maybe they should get into porn, that seems to be quite popular. LOL.

Bill, you are full of excuses and I seem to detect more than a little bitterness.

I haven't seen Surface Pro - so can't comment. The idea of a 10 in laptop 1.5 pounds seems sound to me.

Well, after using a Surface Pro for a few hours today, I gotta say..it has not blown me away. The real beauty I expected was being able to run classic Windows desktop apps. What I found was that at 1920x1080 on a 10.6" screen, many are painful to use. Unless I needed absolute mobility, I cannot in good conscience recommend a Surface Pro. I say save $500 and get an RT instead. It's really only the new UI apps that you are really going to want to use on these devices anyway.

It will likely do well with the existing users. Sadly, there aren't really enough of them left. They will want to pull in new users. That won't be easy.

Again, absolutely and totally false. You don't even seem to care one jot that you're lying through your teeth all the time.

There have been numerous tablets prior to the Surface that were full computers, under anyone's definition, running various versions of Windows and able to run any Windows programs.

You seem to think that you can keep lying and people will begin to believe those lies.

Yes, we had numerous Windows 7 tablets in our offices that were full computers.

You see people this is Microsoft, they build a Surface RT and someone says it should be able to run full blown Windows. They build a Surface Pro and Mr Parks says you only need a Surface RT, it's a lose lose situation.

Windows users, can't live without them, can't live with them.

Probably a poor choice of words, more like the first full Windows OS built specifically for a touch tablet, might have been better. Don't get your knickers in a knot Mr Ray you'll do yourself an injury.

You take lots of things out of context. The screen resolution is so high that trying to use the classic desktop is not a fun task. I was expecting to find a ton of value and potential in this device, however I am disappointed thus far. Maybe with more time I will come around, but the fact that the Surface is sitting on the table next to me and my wife is using her HP Laptop and I'm using the Chromebook doesn't bode well for the poor Surface Pro.
