Microsoft Should Keep Both Windows 7 and Windows 8

Microsoft keeps advertising Windows 8, but Windows 7 remains the top choice for many users out there who are looking for a more familiar working environment.

That’s why tech analyst Jeff Kagan thinks that Microsoft should keep both operating systems alive, as customers must be allowed to choose if they wish to go for the traditional desktop UI, or pick the one that also packs the touch-optimized Metro interface.

“Microsoft needs to focus on keeping customers happy and innovating. Since Windows 8 is a total re-write, and since many customers prefer Windows 7, my recommendation is they keep both. Let the user choose the operating system they want. Don’t force a round customer into a square hole.”

I don't class myself as a h8tr or g8tr. 8 doesn't work for me on my desktop PC's so I run 7 on those. My new laptop came with 8 and I'll likely leave it on there. Having the touchpad that supports gestures makes using 8 easier. It still annoys me at times but not enough to make me want to upgrade it to Windows 7. My "I don't like liver" comment was in response to the endless, it's g8t I don't know why you h8t, oh no it's not your so full of.... debates that seem to crop up.

I prefer to use 7 on those PC's, its just personal choice.

That's ok. There are many that prefer other systems.

I was toying with installing a copy of Vista this morning until the installer said it needs a driver for the cd/dvd and could not continue!

The 3rd party thing is a separate issue. I currently have 37 third party programs installed, so adding 1 more is not a problem for me.

The thing that staggers me is the fanboi concept that the negative posts on this forum are actually helping to cause the lack of acceptance of W8.

They can't seem to grasp the simple truth that it's been rejected en masse by everyday consumers.

W8 is an archetypal model of a self-destruct system! It doesn't need any help!

"NEW COKE" if The Coca Cola Company would have ignored the demands of their customers.

I'm CERTAIN that The Coca Cola Company would have gone out of business in a few years after the release of New Coke, if they would have proceeded as MS has with Windows 8.
