Metro? What Metro?

You're right ... what metro?

If you don't install it you dont' have to hit Win+D! Thank god for Win7 ... long may it rule! ... which it does, without doubt!

Ah, but you have to reboot less often with Win8. So the onerous task of hitting Win-D has been halved or better! That should save me enough time to learn to play "Clair Du Lune" on the keyboard, kayak across to Fisher's Island, and help out at the homeless shelter. Win8:thumb:

Now using the RP, I don't really use Metro. All I do is press Win+D and I'm set. So, what metro? Never heard of it :p

You couldn't even give Win8 away to the homeless, except maybe as a bright shiny object they could use as a fishing lure!

Win7 having to boot more often! What a lot of garbage!

I'm confused, I didn't see it stated in the forum rules that only positive comments about Windows 8 were allowed? But low and behold, as soon as someone expresses a negative view of Metro/Windows 8 the trolls come out from under the rock their under to condemn you for even suggesting there might be something wrong with it. :(

Coke Robot and his gang remind me of the liberals who are running the federal government these days. If you disagree with them they start the name calling. Coke Robot should be banned from this web site until he quits calling people names. He tries to intimidate people into liking Windows 8 despite what some people consider flaws. I think there are posters who are afraid to post their ideas because of the ridicule they get if it is negative about Windows 8. If there can't be a discussion about Windows 8 then shut the web site down, it is meaningless.

I try to limit my derogatory comments to Metro and not any particular forum member. I made an exception in my above post for a reason. If my "trolls" comment offended somebody then maybe they should think about how a similar comment "by them" makes another forum member feel. If someone attacks someone personally it shouldn't be a big surprise when that person lashes back at them. I don't care if you like metro or don't like Metro, just don't attack me personally, or any other forum member just because they have the opposite view from you. If that's not possible then my only advise is "Don't ask the question if your not prepared for an honest answer".

Heh, there was a great article in the PC World magazine about this effect. What is it about certain technical products that bring out such strong comments? Walt Mossberg who writes for the WSJ and others even complained about the conservative appreciation index, where forum users berate him and others who gush over a great product but don't gush ENOUGH.
Its this all or nothing attitude that gets people worked up. They like something and someone else says its garbage. That means that the original poster feels they are being told they made the wrong decision and are delusional in their liking. That pisses them off and they flame back. Back and forth it goes.
If the emotion is taken out of the conversation and the facts are looked at objectively or over a long time span, the plain facts speak out. Windows 8 and Diablo 3 are two products where I see this happening in HUGE AMOUNTS.
My post here is an attempt at such a detached view. I railed against Metro for quite a while before I realized that it was not such a big deal. Others have tried to answer in kind but others...
"Your emotions, high they run, Luke. Quiet your mind you must. In time truth to you be shown" Old Padawan saying.

My post here is an attempt at such a detached view.
Along those lines, eveything for and against, that can be said, has been said.

It's now a case of waiting for the umpires decision, which will be demonstrated in the market success or failure after the retail version is released.

One thing is certain. Many dedicated desktop users, such as myself, will not install Win8 in it's current format. They will either wait for a later version of Windows; an update to Win8 that gives them the options they want; or switch to a different brand of OS.

This rationale is not simply an extrapolation of my own point of view, but is supported by the poll here in this forum which shows 44% at last count would not install Win8. 44% would install, and 12% still undecided. And remember, this is THE forum dedicated to Windows supporters.

The "haters" don't really hate Win8 per se. We're trying to give a message to M$ in the hope they will cater to our needs so we can install W8 and love it!

In the end it's the runs on the board that count, which is the only thing that might cause M$ to change tack and accomodate the 44% who won't install it. In reality, that 44% would be astronomically higher if you ran the same question across the board of all other forums.

Finally the last couple of post have returned to sensible discussion.
There is no reason for personal attacks.
Each person has to be given the ability to post their view and be able to discuss it without personal attacks.

Each of us are able to make our own choices, decide what we personally like and dislike, in this no one is wrong.

These type of discussions tend to escalate, it takes an effort from everyone to control the direction of the discussion.
Thank you all for helping to keep this forum a level above other forums that continually devolve to an ugliness that is not worthy of the caliber of members we have here in Eight Forums.
