(EDIT: Just to be clear - when I say "Tools folder" what i mean is "Tools Category" as with every other "category" in the apps view, it not only IS a folder but IS alterable by manipulating the folder/category to your needs. Apparently not the case w/ Tools/PC Settings)
So PC settings... i dont want to lose the functionality gained by using the charms menu to click PC settings while in the metro interface BUT I also dont want the icon/tile itself nor the "Tools" folder which it somehow creates and is tied to, to exist in my metroUI/apps view interface.
Any modification ive tried leads to the restoration of "Tools" with PC Settings under it OR the loss of functionality of the PC Settings tab inside the charms bar.
Anyone got any ideas? Ive been able to work past/around every single other issue with this clunky poorly implemented interface on my own and with help here - howegver this one has me stumped and stuck. I dont want to waste anymore time on this darn OS!

let me try to explain.. will be much easier. Im not even sure HOW to properly illustrate what im asking in a screenshot lol.
Ok PC settings - I want to have the Text which appears in the charm bar still work... However I want the icon for it which appears in the apps view either A) GONE or B) Inside a custom folder which I made that now houses the Windows store app/icon and I intend to put any future metro apps (i use apps view as my start menu and like it neat and tidy)
The problem ive had is if i try to hide pc settings or delete it (the icon) I lose functionality when clicking on the PC Settings text in the charm bar.
If I try to put the shortcut MS provides inside the folder I made (which houses my store icon) It still works but it doesnt appear in the folder - it stays inside some "Tools" category which doesnt even seem to exist as a folder anywhere within the start menu I can find.
Is that easier to understand? If not, i concede - ill have to try some kind of sequence of screenshots lol.

This is about as clean as I've ever gotten the Apps Screen; but that 'PC settings' shortcut, being an immersive link, that badboy unfortunately has to stay in that directory!
Ok - see that is mostly what I'm going for! I can handle having PC settings if I can get it in the same category as the store!
I created a category called windows metro for all the metro stuff (of which I only have store and PC settings left lol) but I can't get PC settings into that folder/category! It always shows up under a tools category of which I can't find to relocate out of or delete or whatever.
The only difference with yours and mine is all my installed applications are still in their own folders ie: Adobe for all the adobe items and square Enix for ffxiv etc.
Just... Need... To... Get ... Store and PC settings together without losing the functionality from the charms bar! (Tried hiding the icon as I didn't need to be able to access PC settings from two different places which were right next to one another at that) but while that resulted in the icon disappearing, it resulted in the PC settings in the charm bar disappearing as well
Hmmm......,
I think I just tried what you're aiming for and I can still access PC Settings from the Charms Bar.
(again, you have to create the 'new' folder inside the folder where those shortcuts reside)
did you restart? because it was working for me UNTIL i restarted. I was fooled for a minute and happy and today when i restarted POOF hence my post LOL.
The Tools Folder isnt a folder, its the category it gets placed in. Everything else is manipulateable via folder names which influence location and category naming.. with pc settings its different.
Change it to category mode and you will see what i mean. I changed it to sort by Name and it works just like it is for you now A pleasant surprise and i may be stuck using Sort by Name mode lol. Try sort by category and let me know what happens
GRRR - let me get this right... in Sort by Name mode, you cant get the Administrative Tools category to disappear? You cant be serious...... I simply CANT win.
lol and so i tried hiding it under assumption they were all SHORTCUTS and low and behold, it makes them all disappear in control panel too.... FML lol.
just fwiw - if i can move the store icon under the "tools" category like pc settings in category mode - that would be a concession im willing to make lol.
I was prepared to go with apps by name until administrative tools popped up after restarting (even though the darn show administrative tools dipswitch is set to OFF) sigh. I toggled it on/off just in case but nope.. theyre stuck in by name view 24/7.
category mode, the dipswitch works - they arent present - and i have to deal with the pc settings/store organization issue.
Lesser of two evils - one of the two has to be resolveable >.<
That they do. Thing is, my problem is largely solved if I sort by name. I can live with that. I get the cleanliness I wanted and the grouping I wanted.
The issue now is that administrative tools show no matter what I do which is nuts. I didn't even "touch" administrative tools lol.
I checked on my other PC. I thought maybe in. "Sort by name" mode they showed but sure as &$?& on the other PC they are toggleable no matter the view used.
If anyone has any ideas . now I wish I had backed up a bit more recently with Acronis lol.

The Administrative Tools folder is a tricky one; you have to 'cut' the shortcuts from the default folder and put them in a new 'Admin' folder. Leave the original one empty, it won't show.
I love windows 8 - good times. Of course if we weren't enthusiasts, or atleast in my case; anal, it wouldn't be an issue LOL.

WIth that said, ill take a peek. I appreciate your help tremendously! I'll be back in a bit with the results Here's to hoping! Its little things like this I get stuck on and cant mentally move on to things that are much more important until I resolve them. I'm a weird weird *******
