List of Games Working with Windows 8 Developer Preview

I have been running Dirt 3 with Windows 8 Pro RTM and RP before that, and it works great.

Jim

Pardon my novice-ness but what is this RTM? I'm using Windows 8 Pro 64 Bit - using the DVD upgrade version sold in stores not downloaded. And I could not get any of my Steam games to play. And now NFS Shift 2 won't load.

RP is the Release Preview and RTM is the Release to Manufacture and is the same as the retail version you got at the store. Mine is a clean install. Did you upgrade from Win 7 where it saves all your installed programs are did you clean install?

Jim

I had installed Windows 7 Home version first, then loaded the Windows 8 Pro upgrade. I did not install any of the games onto the Windows 7 version of my new PC - although the old install of Windows 7 was still on a hard drive (had fun trying to delete that old version of windows that I thought was not being used. I did a completely new install of 7 and upgrade to 8 onto a new SSD Drive. Later I hooked up my old 750 GB hard drive and tried to delete the windows directory on that hard drive - that screwed up my new install somehow and I had to reinstall Windows 8, MS Office & Adobe Photoshop (the only programs I installed before trying to remove the old version of windows from a drive that was not being used as a boot drive anymore.

Now I`m looking into how to set up a dual boot PC so that I can choose my WIndows 7 or Windows 8. So far only two of eight games want to work well under Windows 8. NFS Shift2 was working now it won`t so it can`t just be a windows 8 thing. I followed the advice to delete all but my steam apps folder and steam.exe and ran a re-install which is painfully slow as I`m rural and now have upgraded all the way to 3.5 mbps! Took hours to reload Dirt Showdown - and it does flash the title when I press Play in steam - screens go black (all three) and then nothing, system returns to normal, and oh yeah, Steam now reports that the last time I played the game was today. I`ve never played it as it has failed to open either from the DVD install or the Steam install.

But X-Plane 10 is flying fine. Dogfights works (another flight Sim game but only one one screen) IL*2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover, Dirt Showdown and Dirt 3 fail to work and are all Steam games. Flight Gear does not work. And now NFS Shift2 does not work.

Windows 8 ain`t winning me over - I needed to upgrade as my rig has 32 GB RAM and Windows 7 Home only supported 16 GB - so I upgraded to get all my RAM - I didn`t count on not being able to play most of the new games I bought for my new rig.

How hard would it be to start all over. I only want to be sure and save my pictures and documents. The rest I can reload. Only been on this new PC for a couple of weeks. Better to restart now than later.

Well seeing as how we have a list of working AV for Windows 8, might as well start one for working games. If you want to contribute, feel free to do so! :)

The easiest way would be to copy pictures and documents to a separate hdd.
Then do a clean install of windows 8.
To do this install it first using the custom setting. Then again choosing to upgrade(so your paid key will work with activation).
Then of course copying your pics and docs back to main hdd.

Hmmm I seen that The Sims 3 was listed (is huge The Sims fan), That'd be cool if Flight Simulator X still works for Win 8, I've really wanted to invest in a fight stick.

Sims 3 only works on windows 8 32 bit. It will NOT work on 64 bit. Hope they fix it soon. Much discussion about and anger about this on other forums.
