I wasn't commenting, I was just trying to understand what you couldn't do in W8, that you could in W7. I will try a second monitor, and see what the short falls are for myself.

It's not only about what I can't do or not it's a Windows 8 consumers preview, so I comment on what I would like to see improved, what is the purpose to make a consumers preview if it's not for see what peoples likes and dislike. If Microsoft launch the preview to make peoples say ,,,wow we like it, we gone buy it …. well the fail.

As I said many times, I was just interested in what the problem was, I also think that MS would need a bit more detail. You are not the only person to say that W8 doesn't support multi screens very well, but no one has really said why.

I don't think there is much chance of you getting the resizable start page, because that would probably mean re-writing the whole of W8.

I know it's difficult to judge a tone of how a post was written, but my posts are not having a go at you, I'm only interested in what you have to say because I have an IT company and I'm interested in genuine draw backs to W8.

I thought that MS would be taking more on board as to what has been commented upon. Not just here but in the press in general. From feedback though it would appear that the consumer preview is meant to be no more than a teaser product. No doubt stuff under the hood is still being developed especially those apps but what we see now is probably what we're going to get. And yes, we are meant to go and buy it. Whether it will make up any lost ground in the phone/tablet market we can only wait and see but I have severe reservations over the desktop taking off - apart from the OEM's. New desktop and laptop sales are forecast to fall but even so there is a huge user base already and it will stabilise. There are restrictions on what can be accomplished on a touch screen so this market will plateau at some point.

Fortunately just about everyone has a stable Win7 product working well for them. Personally I would like to give a linux distro a whirl but you cannot install the latest Adobe products (via wine) which I use.

Have you considered running a Windows VM?

There are various VM programs for Linux distros.

I have VMware Workstation 7 installed in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.
I use it when I am using Ubuntu and I need to run VMs for my Networking course.
I also use an XP VM for playing games.

No I haven't. Not a virgin with linux but probably as good as. Just read about problems with Adobe and wine. On my Win7 rig it's running Adobe Master Collection v5.5, well bits of it anyway and wine will apparently only install up to v4.0.

I am only using one screen and it is still bloody useless.

No I mean how many monitors?

I have a theory that the lovers of the new start screen only have one monitor/screen, once you have more than that then it's bloody useless.

Still every week I hear people say "what a loud of crap Vista was" and I reply "what didn't you like about it?" and they often can't reply.
I know Vista needed more RAM, but otherwise it was a big improvement over Windows XP. The main reason it got a bad name was because it was a big step, and removing the start menu looks like a too bigger step for many people, but it's really not!
I can answer that. Its called blue & black screens and freezes even with 4gbs of ram and video card. And all updated and still have the same issue reguardless. Then I put windows 7 and guess what? the problem was fixed.

That's really debatable considering xp was a security flawed sucker. I once installed xp SP3 in a VM, and I literally spent two hours installing updates, 99 percent of them security. But even then, to say one version of Windows was better than all of them is questionable since every version of Windows is a version of the times.

If we're talking about Microsoft putting back the start menu, no.

If we're talking about putting the actual Start logo on the bottom left side of the screen, yes. I find that the current way now segregates the two interfaces of Desktop and Start Screen to be significant. I think the Start Screen can mesh well into the Desktop and Desktop mesh well into the Start Screen. There shouldn't be a need to segregate them. Seeing a lack of a Start button is odd and seeing a square, mini version of the Start Screen there is just kind of awkward honestly.

Well, I get along fine with the new Start menu and I like All Apps a lot better than the constant fumbling in All Programs. Not to mention the pain with the Start Properties. That thing was a masterpiece of poor design.

So as I said, from my perspective there is no need for the old Start. But this is a free country. Everybody can express their own position. If they put it back (as an additional option), that's fine with me too. I doubt though that they will do that.

Currently, that's how Metro is designed to work. You can move the start page away from your primary monitor, but then the start page and all Metro applications will run on the secondary monitor.
