Solved Just built a PC for my neighbor...

By the time I learned they are read only I had big brother syndrome. Since it doesn't cost me anything and doesn't hurt pc resources, I can be a lunatic I guess.

I still use DVD drives to record music, videos, etc... for people. I archive photos on them and give them to people who have a PC but don't know how to use file sharing sites, etc... They still come in handy...

I still use my DVD drive all the time, especially to burn music CDs to play in my vehicles and to watch DVD movies on my PC, which actually has a larger screen and better sound system than my TV. :p

It may sound crazy, but if you're reusing an older case that had an old IDE CD/DVD drive, you don't want to leaving a hole open in the front of the PC. Besides, people are used to seeing DVD drives in PC's at the stores/online and their old one had one, so of course they want a new one. Nevermind that they never used the old one!
