99% of security issues are down to the USER and a lot of problems aren't even computer related at all but users sending passwords and giving other info out to "innocuous" looking email requests etc.

Install MSE on W8, activate firewall settings correctly, surf sensibly and you are as well protected in W8 as any other computer system (including Linux - in fact Linux can be worse since if a remote user can get ROOT privileges they can do ANYTHING AT ALL on the system -- remember simply replying to some emails can send sensitive data to people who will make malicious use of it).

My worry isn't computers but Mobile Phone apps --especially on android.

Some viruses going round now will send premium texts without the owner knowing until they get the bill !!.
I certainly wouldn't do ANY ONLINE BANKING from a mobile phone app -- I don't have issues doing Banking from W7 or even W8.

Jimbo, you don't need MSE on Win8 8102 DP. It's already there albeit as Defender in this iteration.

They are certainly very similar, Windows defender has been beefed up to use several componants of MSE and by the time Windows 8 is released it may well take over with MSE dissapearing like its predecessor, But they are not yet exactly alike. I have opted to use MSE for the time being as it has more options.

The only real difference I see, Pooch, with the Win8 8102 Defender and MSE, is the "Scheduled scan" and "Default actions."

Still, MSE is unnecessary with Win8 8102 DP. I'll say it again: MSE is unnecessary with Win8 8102 DP.

Anway, just wanted to say if you need to as if WDP (or any system for that matter) is safe or not, you'd want to know what other AV softwares are available just incase you feel the need to get it.
