Installing Windows 8 on UEFI to RevoDrive X2 issue

Interesting. I'll have to play with that.

Did you setup the RAID for the Revo with the Intel controller or with the built-in Revo controller, or did you just enable Intel and still used the Revo controller?

Did you install Win7 as UEFI w/GPT or legacy BIOS w/MBR on the Revo?

For me the Revo works just fine installing Win8 using legacy BIOS w/MBR. It just will not continue installation after the first restart using UEFI w/GPT.

I used the built in controller for the Revo. I set the Intel controller for RAID because of my dual boot--RAID 0 SATA 3's on the Intel controller and the Revo RAID 0 on its built in controller. Well, hummm? I am not aware of using the legacy BIOS, etc., in regard to the Revo. I first set up the SATA 3's RAID and later acquired the Revo. I was unsure what would happen when trying to install the Revo RAID so I disconnected the SATA 3's when installing the Revo. From there I simply, I think, accessed the Revo interface and set up the Revo RAID. After playing with it for a while, I reconnected the SATA 3's, and somewhat to my surprise everything worked perfectly UEFI/BIOS-wise AFAIK. Tell me how to tell whether I used the UEFI w/GPT. I'll try to check it out. I am hazy. I haven't used that machine too much in a while. We moved to a new house, and it now is upstairs.

I guess the easiest way to tell is to use the Diskpart command in an elevated command prompt below to see if your Windows 8 drive has a * in the GPT column for the disk or not like below. MBR is default.

Type and press enter after each command below. You can just close the command prompt when finished.

• diskpart
• list disk

I didn't know there was an alternative to what I did. Where would I have encountered the alternative? Did I just miss it in the Revo interface? I'm happy with the setup whatever. Sorry my experience, etc., didn't help you.

Nar, it's just a slightly different way to start the Windows installation process for UEFI (GPT) vs the normal clean install for Legacy (MBR).

It's not looking good for UEFI and PCI-E cards.

I got the same result with the newer OCZ Revodrive 350, I had to turn on compatibility support mode in my bios - legacy mode. :-(

Another thing to look out for is that there is no way to clone your current system to this PCI-e storage device. My computer was due for a clean install but I wasn't.

I had the drive formatted as a GPT disk but Windows 8.1 told me it could not be installed on that drive. I had to delete the drive and let the Windows install program create the drive and format it - MBR.

Outside of that this drive work great!
