Solved How's everyones Windows 8 experience going?

My experience has been generally good. I've had some problems with memory leaks in Battlefield 3 that are apparently related to windows 8 but other than that its been quite good for me. I actually find it better then I expected!

If Microsoft ditch the desktop completely and Modern doesn't change to suit, then Apple/Linux will be rubbing their hands with glee.

Windows 8 has just already nearly surpassed Linux marketshare in the first month.

Pretty easily done when MS has a sweet deal with laptop and PC manufacturers to encourage its preload on many systems going out the door. But that's a discussion for different thread.

Those were actually all upgrades from prior versions of Windows, expect the numbers to skyrocket right before Christmas and even after when the prices for stuff are still low.

But it doesn't subtract out those who upgraded and then went, "OMG! What did I just do!" ;)

BTW, not arguing with your numbers, but when indicating those kinds of stats, it's good to cite the source. I've read conflicting stats on, for example, early Windows 8 sales versus (by comparison) early Windows 7 sales depending upon who's quoting them (Microsoft officials of course tend to quote the favorable numbers).

27% of all statistics are fabricated on the spot! - Anon

W7 did that before it was even released (publicly).

Everything
surpasses Linux at the moment, and probably will into the foreseeable future. Interesting sideline, however, that Ubuntu appears to have been overtaken by Mint, because of Ubuntu's decision to run with the Unity interface, which the vast majority hate with a passion. Mint provides a traditional interface and users don't have to do mods like with Ubuntu to get back the Gnome interface (aka Windows 8 and the desktop start button).

Exactly

What I'm talking about is that if there was no desktop whatsoever and people had to use just the Modern interface, it would come to a grinding halt, as far as the corporate sector and many other users are concerned. There are a vast number of people who need the ability to do things on multiple screens, with multiple programs running concurrently and visible next to each other. All the Modern interface offers is one app at a time on one screen. I certainly couldn't find a way to open two or more apps at a time and have them visible on different screens, or the one screen.

And why would the Modern interface work in any other way, now or in the future? The interface experience is designed to be the same whether you're using a mobile phone, tablet, PC, TV, kiosk or whatever. If that's what one has to look forward to in Windows 8, I think a lot of people will start to consider their options, once Windows 7 is no longer supported. And that's leaving aside how third party programs are supposed to work on a one screen, unchangeable, interface.

Agreed.
Some things can't be accomplished by finger painting.

Probably because vista made people want to shoot themselves in the foot.

I didn't like Vista either.

I used XP until around July 2009.
I still use XP for WLE - Photo Gallery (It's uncontrollable in W7).

I started using 7 right around July 31st of 2009 on my old xp machine. I wanted to go to vista, but seeing how that would had made me shoot myself in the foot, I avoided it until 7 came along.
