How do people get banned from this forum?

... but I do strongly disagree with the 'Stuff up
once, banned for life' ...

Hi Wenda, the "ban for life" in my opinion is not really "for life" for the reason that they can always come back with a different user account. I think, if you made a mistake and get banned permanently, it's a good idea to start fresh and re-build your reputation if you really wanted to continue to help others and learn from your past mistakes. :)

Wrong! Our admin's and mods are really good in finding those who think they can sneak back in after a ban using hidden IP and another username. Methods and systems used really reveal such attempts.

I think, if you made a mistake and get banned permanently, it's a good idea to start fresh and re-build your reputation if you really wanted to continue to help others and learn from your past mistakes. :)
Wrong again. Being banned from the Eight Forums, Seven Forums and Vista Forums really means that was it. Do not make the mistake and think you can test the boundaries and if it fails, join again with another username.

Agree with Kari, those who have been banned who attempt to come back do not make it long.

Plus, this forum is so social in nature, that either you will be spotted immediately or will be bummed out that you cannot let your secret out.

Thoughts from an old fashioned conservative: I'm glad to see that you can find a place where "anything goes" is not OK. I'm pretty old fashioned and I remember the days when you could turn on the TV and did not have to monitor what the children were watching. There were guidelines--certain things were OK to say and certain things were not OK. Yes, I do believe in freedom of speech and freedom of expression. But I think we have gone over the line on this. So I'm glad to see that we have a forum where certain things that are said are not OK. And the moderators of the forum have the freedom to say,"You can't come back." That's the way I feel about it, but I respectthe right for the younger crowd to think that I am too old fashioned--even though I'm not.:)

Yes, I'd go along with that. There are a couple of forums which I'm a member of that seem
to be essentially un-moderated. It often ends up a total shambles or an abuse-fest. That's
when I log off, usually.

I definitely go along with Franks thoughts and ideas. I like this family of forums because it's so well managed and doesn't allow the trolls in, well if they get in they don't manage to stick around for long.

It can be difficult when you have such a mix of nationalities in one place all with very different views and attitudes and in my view the admin and mods do a brilliant job keeping it all under control and making this a very happy and safe place for all ages and genders. :)

I've seen a few good posters banned from here, for no reason that I can see (not that
it may not have been justified, just that I didn't see it).
Yeah, when they get banned, the posts where they misbehaved are cleaned up as well.

That's up to the admins, it's their site, but I do strongly disagree with the 'Stuff up
once, banned for life' way that this site (and one or two others I'm a member of, it's
not unique to here) is moderated.
I'd be willing to bet that in most cases (if not all cases), people who do get banned are getting warned before it happens unless they do something extremely dumb like post pornography or something. Again, it's just a matter of us not seeing it..

And from what I can tell, in the sevenforums and eightforums, I think you have to really screw up good to get the boot. It's not just an accidental post that gets you kicked. People always need to remember that this is an internet forum and not personally attack anybody. Generally speaking, it's that easy to not get booted.

I always warn the offender first, by PM, and almost never give 'life bans'. I simply
do not agree with the concept, unless in very extreme circumstances.

You just lose good posters that way, for one 'mistake', and scare potential new members away.

Just my opinion, feel free to disregard.

***Just don't ban me for it, it's an opinion, not a command.***

Wenda.

Like I said above, I don't think many have gotten kicked off here for "one mistake". Yes, we have lost good posters. It's a shame that some of them took it to a personal level. I'm hoping many don't get scared away.

And you have NOTHING to worry about with respect to your post. You aren't breaking rules, you aren't posting about piracy, and you aren't personally attacking anybody.
I do agree, it's kind of sad when decent people get banned because they got too personal with someone. But the thing I never understood is that the OTHER person involved never seemed to have been warned or even banned when they had equal part in it.

Hello Andy,

It's a subjective decision.

If it's just something minor, we usually warn first.

If it's something completely uncalled for and outrageous, then it's usually an instant ban.

Usually if the other person was not the one that started or provoked the issue, then nothing will happen to them since it's not their fault someone flipped out on them. However, we may send that other person a PM to report an issue next time instead of replying in kind.

However, if the other person gets to personal or nasty, then they could risk getting banned as well whether they started it or not.
