Yay! I solved the problem! No more pop up keyboard. No more intrusive "charm bar" poking its head out from the side of my screen. No more stupid "tiles" on the start up screen.
I returned my Lenovo (which in addition to running W8 was "pre-loaded with malware for your convenience") for a full refund and bought a MacBook Pro instead.
So buh-bye Windows in all your incarnations! I won't be touching, swiping or typing on your sorry @$$ ever again!
But thanks, you guys, for trying to help me through it. I finally just cried Uncle and got the Mac which I think is more suited to my needs.
