He'll be ok. Not understanding if he made new accounts why it doesn't boot to accounts option signin screen.

Ok it looks as if we are halfway there. I was at least able to switch accounts by signing out. The problem is that if I say, forget to sign out of my account. All my child has to do is press the reset button on the PC and then it bypasses the login screen and boots right to the start screen. This is still the main issue. Thanks for the tips guys. You have helped me get halfway there.
Also it wont let me change pictures on the accounts. I get the same error every time for some reason.

OK. Some progress. :)

Are there pictures in the account picture files to change a picture?

You'll have to sign out then so the child cannot enter. That's a given really.

It does boot to a multiple account sign in screen for choice, correct?

Are there pictures in the account picture files to change a picture?

There is a option to let me choose a pathway to the folder where I house the pictures. When I choose my path and select a picture I always get the same error message. Windows 8.1 is up to date too.

You'll have to sign out then so the child cannot enter. That's a given really.

There should be a option that auto-signs you out when the PC is shutdown or reset. The fact that there isn't is just plain silly to me.

It does boot to a multiple account sign in screen for choice, correct?

It does not actually, this is the major issue at hand. I can only access the login screen if I manually choose to sign out. This is kind of ridiculous as well as frustrating.

Yes I have rebooted and it goes straight to the start screen, even after creating the accounts.

The file path for the pics are in fact within the same account.

Ok. I know you have other problems here, but let's start from the beginning. You stated:

I have only one administrative account associated with my Windows 8 PC. I have this said account password protected yet my child can bypass the logon screen by merely resetting the PC.

How can your child possibly reset the PC without getting into an admin account? And what exactly do you mean by "reset".

When the computer boots it should boot to a lock screen first and then by tapping any key or right click the sign in screen should appear, yes? On that screen as in all past OSs there is a power button on the right and Easy Access on the left. Not understanding how the child could get in without signing in.

My apology. It finally dawned on me that you never had a sign in screen, correct? If so, how about a Lock Screen?

Upon reboot I never get a login screen. After the reset button is pressed on the PC, Windows goes straight to the start screen of the last person who was logged in. This means that Windows is NOT automatically logging out of the account after a reboot. If this is a intentional design then it's kind of silly if you ask me and defeats the purpose of security. The fact that I have to remember to manually logout is quite futile.
I'm not always going to remember to manually log out and when I do then all my child has to do is simply reboot the PC and they are in. That's not security.

Side Note: I have me PC set to auto-lock after 1 hour of non use. It does auto-lock (like it should) and then the user who is logged in is prompt to re-enter their password. A simple reboot takes you straight to the start screen.
Manually locking the PC works fine too. Upon locking the PC, the user is taken straight to the lock-screen where they are prompt to put in their password.

Ok I checked the box labeled, "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" and now when I reboot, it stops at the lock-screen. Simply pressing Esc while take me to the login screen where the 4 accounts are displayed. :D
This is great news!
The only thing I have to do now is figure out why in the world I keep getting a error message every time I attempt to change/add a account picture to.
Thanks for all the tips guys. Your expertise is appreciated.

Yes, that would be an absolute B!

Nah, you just pull the mobo battery for about 10 seconds and plug it back in. Or, use the BIOS jumper to clear the current BIOS. Very easy to work around that one.

Thanks, Patrick, but we know the work around. :)

BTW, one is not clearing the BIOS by pulling the CMOS battery or jumping. It reverts BIOS it to default by clearing the customized settings CMOS is holding in which the password is part of settings. It’s still a “B” in time and effort to correct, especially on a laptop.

In our household, the kids have always each had their own PC and it was in a shared space (family room) with all of the other computers. Now that they are young adults, they have their laptops, smartphones and computers in the den/music room. The kids were responsible for their own computers and I taught them how to protect themselves and their computers and it worked out well. I NEVER had to clean their computers....

You're so very welcome. :)

That's good news! Do you think someone knows enough about systems to untick that? ;)

The pic problem > You may want to try these. They will usually fix corruption.

This worked great by the way. Everything is working as intended now including the option which allows the user to change the pictured associated with each account.
Thanks for everything guys. :)
