Help! Windows 8 sucks :(

I assume you are worried about the live content displaying - there is a Share option in the Metro PC settings screen (charms bar - change PC settings - Share), that will allow you to switch off the sharing for the Mail app - am not on a win 8 system, only have remote access, at the moment but looks like it could do what you require

Edit

There is also the notifications option on the settings screen that allows you to switch off notifications for the mail app, this may also help

Edit 2 ;)
there is also an option to set what apps show on the lock screen under personalise

Hi Barman, Thanks allot for helping!

I understood the first option you wrote, but not the second one with the notifications and also not the third one with the Lock screen ?

Can you pls. guide me through?
On the third, go to Charm Bar > Settings > Change PC settings > Personalize. On the second, go Charm Bar > Settings > Notifications.

Yep. Just letting you know what he meant. Why not use a mail app from your desktop. The metro mail app is trash although it is scheduled for some improvement in Win8-SP1 (i.e., Blue :p ).

Do a a system restore if you can to get back to where you were. iE is already on the desktop in the taskbar. Use it from there. Also, you could try repining iE to the start screen from "All Apps." Actually, try this before the system restore. Right click on start screen to get to all apps.

Wow, I'm going out on a limb to say you REALLY need a straight up tutorial on how to use Windows 8. Am I correct on this?

Also, if you don't want people on your PC looking at your email, just password protect it and lock, by hitting :winkey: and L on the keyboard. The Mail app, along with the other apps that you're logged into are like having an internet browser window open at all time refreshing your email. They're internet apps.

Go to the Windows Store (the green tile with the bag) and type in getting started. The first app result should be Getting Started with Windows 8. Go ahead and install that, it's from HP but nonetheless. It has a collection of videos that show you what to do, which I bet would be easiest.

Also, I'll post a bit later on my things on how to make Windows 8 better. It's a list, I'll see if I can find it as it's relevant. By the way, your laptop is a new Windows 8 laptop?

Totally silent. No fans at all.
I think part of the concern too is the fact that once you setup an account for things like mail, as soon as you login, (or whomever walks up to your logged in computer), has instant access to your email.

For example, at work, I like to check on my personal gmail. But that doesn't mean that I want anybody to just click gmail and read my email. Therefore, I don't use an app to check gmail. Instead I rely on the website and I type my credentials each time. It's a little bit of effort, but worth the extra privacy.

I don't see unpinning an app from the start screen, as a satisfactory solution to the above problem. Once they figure out how to open "all apps", they will be able to launch email again.

I bought it 3 days ago.. so yeah its new but it dosent have touchscreen options. Which I Think is required to use windows 8. My hands are getting tired from using the touchpad to lock the screen this difficult way all the time. Its so not ergonomic!

No, your laptop has touch gesturing enabled with the touchpad, which mimics the touch interaction of Windows 8 REAL well, at least depending on the laptop.

What brand is it, do you know?

I cannot even believe that you took the time to type that response to me, I do corporate IT for a living.

Here is the problem with your quaint solution. If anybody manages to change my password on the Windows domain and then logs into my laptop, they have all of my personal email, etc.

I don't want automatic logins to anything personal. No email, no dropbox, no skydrive, no photobucket, no facebook, etc. For these things, I don't want apps, I just want a website with a login.
