I recently built a high end gaming computer ( my first time building one). Its specs are as follows: CPU : Intel Core i7 4790K 4.0Ghz Quad Core GPU : 3GB ASUS Nvidea Geforce GTX 780 RAM : 16GB Kingston Beast DDR3-1600 Memory PSU : Corsair RM 750W SSD : Kingston Hyper X 3k SSD 480GB HDD : WD blue 1TB HDD Motherboard : Asus SABERTOOTH Z97 MARK 1 Case : Cooler Master HAF X OS : Windows 8.1 I have tried many of the of the main solutions offered my googling 8.1 freeze to no success. I ran /scannow as one of my later attempts and found corrupt files. I then checked the logs and googled the corrupt file and how to fix it. I ran the /restorehealth and sucessfully fix the problem which i confirmed with a scannow. But the freezes did not stop or change in anyway. I opened up the pc and checked and tightened all the connections to no success as well. I noticed that my skype often disconnects with the error message about an i / o error. Then i start to think perhaps that my SSD (which windows 8 is installed on) is the issue. All drivers were up to date as was the bios. I exchanged the SSD for a new one to have the issues reoccur on a clean installation of windows 8.1. I have also tried changing the sata cables to no sucess. Im not sure what the problem is or how to sort it.
Have you run Windows built in memory diagnostics? or else you can try running only RAM module at a time.
Also any chance it is overheating? Maybe the cpu heat sink grease is not applied correctly. maybe try an application that monitors various temperatures in the system.
Always the chance it could be the motherboard too.
