Frequent BSODs

A couple of things that I've inferred from the reports:
- scan the system for malware
- ensure that you have the latest UEFI/BIOS for your system. Check using Vaio Update and then manually check by visiting the update site for your system.
- update all networking drivers

Graphics drivers on laptops are a real pain to work with. Currently my system has a disabled graphics card as I was too smart for the system and installed individual drivers from the graphics card manufacturers (and ignored the advice about laptops!).
In my case, I have to have an AMD graphics driver that's signed by Intel in order for my AMD graphics card to work. The one from the AMD website it signed by AMD - and so I don't have an operating AMD graphics card :(

As for your case:
- download the latest, Win8.1 compatible Intel graphics driver from the Sony website
- uninstall the current Intel graphics driver and reboot
- install the freshly downloaded Intel graphics driver
- monitor for further BSOD's

Sorry for the late reply I've been a bit busy these past few days. I did everything that you mentioned and I'm still getting a blue screen. Here's the report.

This one is most likely a compatibility or a hardware problem.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Sorry for taking so long to respond it's been a busy week. I did what you suggested and I was still getting BSODs so I ran Verifier. The report is attached. Just as a note after I ran Verifier and my computer started back up I had to leave before running the diagnostics tool and my computer was still running and when i came back it was just a black screen and I had to manually restart it.

Have you removed OpenVPN? If not, please do so as it's outdated driver is still showing in the memory dumps.

Be sure that you have the latest updates from the Sony website. The easiest way to do this by using Vaio Update. Just keep running it until there are no updates available (this may take a long while). Ensure that you update the Bluetooth drivers as Win8 versions have been known to cause BSOD's on Win8.1 systems.
Also be sure that you have ALL available Windows Updates.

The Driver Verifier enabled memory dump points to video issues.
This can be hardware or software (there are other possibilities - but video is most likely from the lone DV enabled memory dump).

Start by replacing your video drivers. To do this, please:
- download a fresh set of the latest nVidia video drivers from the Sony support website
- uninstall the current nVidia video drivers from your system.
- install the freshly downloaded drivers
- monitor for further BSOD's

Should the BSOD's recur, then I have to wonder about the video card itself.
Please run the free video stress tests from this link and let us know the results

Also, ensure that the system is free of dirt/dust (blow out the vents with canned air - DO NOT USE a vacuum or an air compressor, they may cause damage to the system). Only use the system on a hard surface. And try using a laptop cooling pad (if possible). Finally, monitor your temps with this free tool: HWMonitor CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

Please note the drivers below that date from before the release of Windows 8.1 (17 Oct 2013) - check to see that each and every one is compatible w/Windows 8.1 (at the manufacturer's website). If not, you must either remove the device and it's software - or locate a Windows 8.1 compatible update on the web. Removing some drivers may make the system unstable - so if you're unable to find updates, post back for info on the one's that can/cannot be safely removed.

The drivers that are [DEL]struckout[/DEL] don't have updates available (AFAIK).
DO NOT delete them, just leave them be.

I still can't find OpenVPN or anything related in programs and features and when I follow the steps you've provided to get rid of the driver I restart my computer and when I check C:\Windows\System32\drivers the tapoas.BAD is still there but underneath it tapoas.sys has come back somehow even though it should be gone after I rename it. For the drivers listed the only one that I can find a proper Windows 8.1 update for is what I assume to be iBtFltCoex.sys since I found an intel bluetooth driver. I've had several more crashes since then and here's the report. Any advice on these obstacles I seem to be coming across would be helpful.

Also here's an image for what I see in the drivers location for tapoas:

Create another user profile and see if the problem occurs there.
Try using it for 2 days - that way you'll be sure that a BSOD will occur.

Please upload the report from the Autoruns program. (it'll save as an .arn file).
I hope that there may be clues in it's output that will help point to the offending program.

The memory dumps are essentially the same thing.
I suspect the video card, but the outdated drivers make this uncertain.
If the drivers can't be updated further (and we can't remove them using normal methods) - then the next step would be to perform a "clean" install of Windows to see if the BSOD's still occur then.

Here's a link to how to do a "clean" install: Canned Speeches
