Solved DISM error: 0x80240021

Thanks again guys. I will try it this weekend.
I think it may have something to do with Win update KB3022345.
At least I have a few paths to follow in case one fails.

Its been 5 years, glad i found this thread, i followed the steps that trine722 followed, but after i mounted the iso for windows 8.1, there was no install.esd, it was already install.wim. so i copied it into the export index folder and ran restore health as admin.
the dism completed at 100%, but something else happened. a folder called mounted was created in the export index folder and i cant delete it, also when i check properties the size keeps changing from 3gb to 10gb. i dont understand how this happened but when i try running dism restorehealth again it fails at 80% with 1726 error.
can anyone explain whats going on?
