Ok, I decided to check my HP machine. Which I have altered sufficiently so it is far from the system it was. It accepts my chosen name, but look at this:
All that cack has been fillied in, Windows 8 read it all from the MB. SO I think your problem is the system that reads the OEM info and planting it in there, may somehow be doing it with the computer name as well.
How about in your network, does your system show up as "Dell-PC" or as the name you have set? That's where the determination has to be made.
