Computer freezes on restart

Ah sorry I posted before the previous response didn't see that there. I will give that a try tomorrow when I have more time. But in the mean time thanks a whole lot for offering your help. I really appreciate it.

Ahhh sh- shoot seems the PC does not want to shut down anymore. I went to turn it off. It froze on the shutting down screen and then it reset itself.
At least it resets some how. But now I might have found myself in an endless loop.

Instead of trying to repair through windows update server could I just use my windows 8 disk?
Or is that the dumbest thing you've ever heard?

How dism would access it is problematic.

I type in gpedit.msc and it can't be found : (

On the windows forums they want me to check every process individually on startup. Oh golly, this is going to be fun!

Would background tasks even effect shut down?

Maybe win 8 doesn't have it.

It doesn't:

If it is only Windows 8, we can’t see cannot see gpedit.msc, since there is no Group Policy feature enabled in the edition.

I wouldn't worry about it.

So I just wont be able to use the command... okay.

I'm currently at a point where I don't really know what to do, I've read Brinks tutorials on refreshing and restarting windows.. but they really do feel like - the final option. As I understand refreshing the PC uninstalls all of my own programs (I've downloaded nothing off the windows store) so that is definitely going to result in hours upon hours of reinstalling EVERYTHING which I wish to avoid.

However I am currently worried about the potential damage I could be doing to the hardware by turning it off at the tower each and every time.

Alternatively I could try upgrading to 8.1 but from what I understand people are having A LOT MORE trouble with that.

There's gotta be one last thing I can try right?

If you'd like, we can take a fresh look at the system if you run the tool from the BSOD subforum again and post results here.

SOME are having trouble with 8.1.

I'm not.I upgraded to 8.1 Pro wmc from the store & only had to upgrade a few drivers.

When I upgraded I lost no files or programs.
I have a Microsoft account.

If you know what you are doing, you won't have a lot of problems. :)

Also, once you get things running good, use Macrium Reflect to make a backup image of all the needed drives to restore Windows.

Make sure you get the right version--32 or 64 bit.

Oooh wait, no. Halo man I got a question. In my other thread about the BSODS (which seem to have stopped by the way) you said that my intel storage driver was out of date and to go to the website to upgrade them. I went to their website and well I ran a thing to check my drivers and nothing. No links to updates. I think I may as well update what I know needs updating before I post a list of out of date junk.

At any rate here is the old DMP file from the other thread if that's helpful at all.

Oh and David...

If you know what you are doing, you won't have a lot of problems.

So basically I will have HEAPS of problems.

EDIT: the attachment does not appear to be showing. So here is a link to the thread I guess http://www.eightforums.com/bsod-cra...tem_thread_exception-whole-host-others-2.html

Yeah I'm mighty persistent with my posting but I can't just let this go.

Okay so... I've been doing a HEAP of searching. And two big contenders for solving the issue are A create a custom start button and B reset and update the BIOS.

Now the idea of messing around with the BIOS for me is TERRIFYING and I don't know how to do it in the first place. So that leaves option A.

We'll see how this goes. I will post results later.

Okay, thats interesting. Using this link http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/7025-shut-down-shortcut-create-windows-8-a.html I am able to shut down the computer fine. Which makes me wonder what the problem is when I shut down in the traditional way. I also turned fast startup back ON as it was not doing me any benefit being off.

So what ever is in the shut down command is able to bypass some process that is running when I shut it down through the menu.
