Oh, I meant the confusing stuff the other guys provided. I have another problem. While on the phone they told me to turn off computer, turn back on and click F2 repeatedly to bring up menu to view bios. It would not go to that menu. He tried it again, this time using delete and again no menu. I never get the menu to go to bios or safe mode. They say there is something wrong.

PS... This may help others: I just called Asus back and asked if they couldn't try one more time to fix it by phone. This time it worked I got into bios by tapping F2 when I saw the ASUS name come up during boot. Got into Bios and press F5 and then to resent bios to default.

He said to monitor the situation and see if I get another occurance of BSOD... if I do, then it has to be sent in.

I really don't want to redo everything.

Barbee - please, I stress please again - do not take offense! I mean this in order to help and that's all.

Dealing with ASUS is not going to help you at all - besides if they wipe your hard drive and make it fresh. You already indicated that you do not want that for various reasons.

In the name of repairing the machine - simply uninstall Arcsoft software, uninstall Trend Micro, visit Trend Micro site to download and run the removal tool for it, then type services.msc in Start screen and press Enter. Use the opened screen to set Windows Defender and Windows Firewall to Automatic. Reboot.

All in that order. Nothing there is hard to do, so I strongly suggest (kindly) that you do these things without diversion and without bringing up any other sidetracking stuff.

Yes, free and designed by Microsoft themselves - the same people that made the software that runs your whole machine. Thank you for the trust, but it is beyond having to do that. You already trust Microsoft enough to run their operating system. Trusting them with anything else is a lesser degree of it.

If I remove Arcsoft Webcam companion, won't that affect my SKYE? I use that a lot to talk to gkids in other states. I need them to see me and me them. I removed the other two.

One thing at a time. I suggest you remove all Arcsoft software, and then if you have a problem running Skype or whatever else, that would be very trivial to fix.

OK, husband is child-minding. I did everything you said. It seems to show both firewall and defender are active but I don't see a place to make it auto. Also I don't see it anywhere. I like to see it so I KNOW for sure it's on and working. Also typing "services.msc" only brought up list of all sorts of stuff so I just typed in Windows Defender and Windows Firewall.

As you can see in my screenshot, that's how you can tell if it is Disabled, set to Automatic or set to Manual.

Mine is Disabled because I use ZA Antivirus + Firewall (a stable security option, but can be complicated and can crash systems if not configured well too.)

If you double click on the words "Windows Firewall" itself as in the screenshot, you can then access the setting to make it Automatic.

We were talking about Windows Firewall and Windows Defender services and we cannot see them in that screenshot. (They are all in alphabetic order.)

As for the ArcSoft software, I see a service for it so that means it hasn't been uninstalled yet.

I uninstalled all Arc Soft that were showing under programs.

I contacted Einstein and he told me to relay to the thread: "ASUS cannot fix BSODs online. It is a poor choice to send the machine to ASUS instead of listening to Einstein."

I'm sorry I didn't listen to you. After getting my computer back, I have used it for 6 months and now I'm getting the BSOD again. I called ASUS and they said, "send it back but it's now out of warranty, so you have to pay."

Just follow the advice in this thread. If it is a new or different problem you are having, start a new thread so that it can be addressed more quickly. People don't like wading through 6 pages, only to find a different problem - haha

I read through most of the 6 pages but not much help since it was about helping someone else who posted their logs.
It's also very confusing. Can you direct me to exactly where on the thread the solution is? The ASUS guy had me reset by Bios but I'm not sure that will solve it. So far I haven't had the BSOD since I did it last night.
