Solved cannot extend desktop on 2 monitors 8.1 64bit. ok in 32bit

Ran the file "motherboard_driver_amd_chipset_win8" as administrator.
Made careful note of where it extracted files to.
Opened the folder called "chipset-win8"
There were 2 install files, ASetup (1648KB) and Setup (561KB)
I chose ASetup as it was bigger and the first one in the list.
Ran it as administrator. The setup process did its thing - I went with the defaults.
Now it says
AMD - Catalyst (TM) Install Manager - Version: 08.00.0881
Finished. Installation complete.
Device Manager still says that it is using Microsoft Basic Display Adapter.
The install log says;

I will reboot and see if that makes a difference.

When I clicked on Finished, it said, "Actions taken by Catalyst Manager require a reboot".
So I rebooted - but Device Manager still says the Display Adapter is Microsoft Basic Display Adapter.

All that seems to have done is install an application which can be used to overclock the system.

It's finally fixed!
I rang someone I know at a computer shop and he told me to use the Windows 7 VGA driver from Gigabyte's website.
GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket AM3 - GA-880GA-UD3H (rev. 2.2)
Now my Display adapter shows as
ATI Radeon HD 4250
and I have an extended desktop across both my monitors.
Thanks go to Steven at Eternal Computers Blacktown NSW Australia.

I also got help from
http://www.eightforums.com/graphic-cards/4501-microsoft-basic-display-adapter.html
Find the correct CCC for your chip, download it, and let it put the files in the default folder but DON'T install CCC. Go to Device Manager, Display Adapters and you should see the default Microsoft Display Adapter, click update, direct the updater to the folder your driver is in and it will install your driver for you.

Sorry I didn't get back to you, got busy with family matters. Glad you got it sorted though. Make a not of it being an ATI Radeon HD 4250, it may make it easier next time around.
