Hey guys,
I've recently installed Windows 8 Consumer Preview x86 on my laptop (Asus M50SA).
Installation went fine, but after about 10 minutes of starting to use to the OS, I get a crash with a message telling me to look up the error 'BUGCODE_USB_ERROR', and a timer counting down to a restart. It's essentially an old-style BSOD, but slightly fancier and simplified.
This continues to happen over and over, usually giving me no more than 10 or 15 minutes. The crash doesn't happen while using any particular application and indeed happens even when I just boot it and don't touch it.
Any ideas? I'm writing this from my Windows 7 partition, but I can switch back to 8 for information gathering (although it usually crashes a few minutes in). I don't have this problem when using 7 on the same laptop, although it looks like that error and an associated blue screen has been around through Windows XP. There have been a variety of fixes associated with it since then, but I doubt many will work on Windows 8, since the majority seem to be hotfixes from Microsoft that are OS version specific.
It's almost certainly hardware specific, since this doesn't seem to be a widespread issue.
Relevant hardware details:
I'm using drivers supplied by Windows Update, since Asus doesn't even make Win7 drivers for this older laptop model much less Win8. The BIOS is the latest version supplied by ASUS.
Any help would be cool! I'm an IT professional, I can handle technical explanations, etc. Just figured I'd check the wider internet to see if anyone has encountered this issue yet.
