It probably doesn't make a difference, but maybe you would only be able to access 1-11 channels with the North American driver .inf configuration. Europe has more channels, I believe.

Well, then three choices. The first is to get a new adapter that will have new drivers.

The second is to install v2 and see if it updates the driver.

The third is to try to install the latest driver for it from these companies/adapters:

What does Device Manager say the date is on that (after you change back)?

I can give you a good idea if it will work or not well with that info.

Ya, I checked about 4 or 5 downloads from various manufacturers and they all have 2007 as the latest driver, and that's no good.

Like I said though, you can try to install the v2 to see if it updates it. If not, you're probably best off getting a new adapter in the store because those will have 2013/2014 drivers available and will not crash.

Something like this even clearly states that it is good for 8:

Amazon.com: Bolse® 300Mbps Wifi Wireless-N USB Micro Mini Adapter - Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8; Mac OS X 10.4 Greater; 2.4G 802.11ngb 32-Bit and 64-Bit Compatible: Computers & Accessories
