BSOD When Launching TreePad, Given Driver Error Code

Hmmm, Juniper is in every dump? I removed it, tested and then updated to the latest version...

OK, thank for all your time. I'll see if Driver Verifier can be run.

I thought the Juniper stuff was unusual also - but there are times that the developer doesn't make the uninstaller remove everything.
Try reinstalling, then uninstalling it again to see if that helps. If not, we may opt to manually remove it (I'm not quite sure about this yet - as I don't like removing drivers without more evidence that they are actually to blame).

Let it crash at least 3 times with Driver Verifier - we want to make sure that it captures a memory dump.
Then zip up and upload the contents of C:\Windows\Minidump (you may have to copy them to the Desktop in order to zip them up).

We'll run an analysis on the memory dumps and, hopefully, it'll tell us who's to blame.

I have completely removed Sophos and tried the uninstall/reinstall/uninstall suggestion for Junos. Still BSOD so it looks like Driver Verifier is my last option. Dump attached.

Just going through the setup process for Driver Verifier and have a couple of questions. The instructions on your Driver Verifier page describe how to create a recovery disk but my PC doesn't have "Create a System Repair disc with a CD or DVD instead", there is only the option to use USB.

If I untick the box, W8 needs 512 MB USB:

View attachment 42358

and if I tick it, W8 needs 16 GB USB:

View attachment 42357

Looks like I have no choice but to use a USB?

Secondly, when walking through the Driver Verifier setup, there are two "Low Resource Simulation":

Which do I ensure is unticked?

Yes, you'll have to use USB for the recovery drive. I suggest the full thing (16gB) as it'll copy the recovery partition over - but you can get away with the 512 mB USB for our purposes here.

As for the low resources thing - Win8.1 changed a lot of this, so the instructions aren't real clear on this. Don't use either one.

There's been several reasons given for not using this by several experts, but the most significant that I've seen is that the system will slow down unbearably while using them.

I don't know if you've tried these 2 things yet - but if not, please do them (because I consistently see NTFS.sys and fltmgr.sys in the stack text):
1) chkdsk /r /f from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt. It'll ask you if you want to do it at reboot - answer "Y" (or "Yes") and reboot and see what it does.
2) run a hard drive diagnostic: Hard Drive Diagnostic Procedure

TeamViewer drivers are outdated, but I'm not real concerned over them (as long as you're using the latest version)
The Juniper/Junos drivers weren't present in the last memory dump, so it looks like you've gotten rid of them. Good work!

    Other Info
    I'm handsome and a snappy dresser :0)
I was able to complete all suggested steps, including the Driver Verifier, without any issues. However, I chose to run without "
Special Pool
" due to the warning of "small amount of RAM".

I ran the HD diagnostics, nothing was found.
I ran the Driver Verifier and created the BSOD a hand full of times (ZIP Attached).
I ran the the SF Diagnostics Tool before and after Driver Verifier (ZIP's Attached).

Note, I ran TPB as Administrator, which I had not tried before, and I was finally prompted to enter the registration key. I did that and attempted to start again, both as admin & regular user. every time it went to BSOD.

Final note, our IT department loaded a W8 & W8.1 image on VMware for me to test, TPB ran without issue on both.

Should you have occasion to run Driver Verifier again, please enable the Special Pool option. The reference to a small amount of RAM is generally for systems with less than 1-2 gB of RAM. The consequences of running it on those systems could either be slowness, or increased crashes.

None of the uploaded memory dumps are Driver Verifier enabled.
This means that nothing caused the driver verifier options to trip the BSOD when they were run.

So, let's look at each driver present in the VM vs each driver in the system with the BSOD's

For example, I notice more BSOD's in systems with USB audio than I do in those without.
I notice more BSOD's in systems with Virtual Box and or VMWare than in those without.
I notice more BSOD's in systems with older drivers than in those without.

More to follow in the next post.........

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

dlkmd.sys Thu Mar 27 13:21:05 2014 (53345E01)
Start by updating these. I've skipped some because I'm familiar with them and don't consider them to be the cause at this point.

IntcDAud.sys -IDT 92HD93 Hight-Definition Audio Driver. Here's a link to the Win8.1 version: Driver Details | Dell US

stdcfltn.sys - ST Microelectronics Free Fall Data Protection Driver. Here's a link to the Win8.1 version: Driver Details | Dell US

DellRbtn.sys - this is the Dell Airplane Mode Switch driver. Here's a link to the Win8.1 version: Driver Details | Dell US

Visctap0901.sys - Viscosity Virtual Adapter
Remove this one. I've seen problems with similar drivers (TAP-Win32 Adapter), but not with this exact one
Wait to verify that it's not the cause of BSOD's - then you can reinstall the latest, Win8.1 compatible version.

bcbtums.sys - Broadcom Bluetooth Firmware Download Filter driver from Broadcom Corporation
btwampfl.sys - Broadcom bluetooth driver
Some Bluetooth drivers from Win8 have issues with Win8.1. If there is not a later version available at the computer manufacturer's website, then try this link: Bluetooth Software Download | Broadcom
Here's the Dell link: Driver Details | Dell US
Check the version number to see if you have/don't have it.

dlkmdldr.sys - DisplayLink Core Software
dlkmd.sys- DisplayLink Core Software
Please uninstall the DisplayLink software in order to test (it seems to be a current version, but it may have become corrupted). If there isn't a newer version at the Dell website, then try the software from here: DisplayLink: Windows Software

@usasma Thank you for all your help & time, it is truly impressive!

My employer ended up giving me a new PC and TPB works without issue.

PM me a PayPal eMail and I am happy to make a donation for your efforts to show my appreciation.

Thanks for the kind words!
Sorry, but I don't accept donations for doing what I love to do.
I would suggest that you "pay it forward" by helping someone else out for free. It doesn't have to be computer work, just something that you'll enjoy helping another out with.

Good luck and best wishes!

Well, I have been able to isolate the problem a bit further. TPB was working on my new PC until I added a software product we build in-house.

I work for a software company and after installing our own product TPB started BSOD. Development believes it may have to do with a COM .dll file being used by both. I will post more once they get it sorted.

Interesting! What's the name of the product (if you're able to reveal it)? Does it use any drivers of it's own?
Do you have the most recent memory dumps?

It would be interesting to see if it's TPB or the in-house product that's causing the BSOD. I'd suspect that it's something wrong with TPB as we haven't seen evidence of the other product in the memory dumps.
