This afternoon, I bid a sad last farewell to an old friend. I've just removed my loved and much-modified Win 8 CP installation from my
second machine before it expired, and replaced it with a system image of the machine's original and legal Win 7 Ult SP1 setup.
My first experience with Windows 8 wasn't good, I didn't like the DP at all, nor did the machine. I was reluctant to try the CP after that
but since I installed it around last April I've grown to love it. It's been very stable, most of my games and software worked and the driver
issues I had with the DP were fixed. When MS stopped updating Defender, I put a free AV on for security also Malwarebytes.
I had hassles with the RP and, to a much lesser extent, with the RTM trial version, but the CP really has been great. And it still had blur
and transparency, I miss them both.
When I purchased my Win 8 Pro retail pack, it came with both 32 and 64 bit disks. The 64 bit version has been installed and activated on
this box, and WMC added. So, for a lark, I decided to see if the 32 bit would go over the Win 7. It did, with ease, but would not activate. I
was asked to purchase another product key.
I expected this so wasn't disappointed, and indeed may do so if I can do it before the promotional period ends, otherwise the 7 setup can
stay. I's proven to be solid and reliable. That W8 test install has now been removed (I did not attempt any activation hacks at all) and
the legal W7 install is running.
The next step is to remove the DP from my old desktop box, and then I can get my Vista Ult setup back again. I do like the retail version
of Win 8 very much, and have no plans to go back to Win 7 on this machine, but the CP just looked so nice in comparison.
Anyone else still on any of the betas and what's your plan when they expire? Upgrade? Go back to 7? Or something else entirely?
Wenda.
EDIT: My Win 7 Ultimate desktop. Long time no see.
