A funny point :P

And don't say Windows XP is bad now. It's a good OS, just starting to age on now :)

Yup, very true. :)

It is showing its age, and XP was bad when it was first released (for compatibility, reliability, etc.), but after SP-2 it was even more stable than Windows 2000 was with its multiple service packs.

Vista isn't bad in the sense that its unreliable or has compatibility issues (compatibility is much better now). It's bad because of its bloat, marketing, licensing, and general acceptance among the PC world. Although XP was just as bad when it was first released, it's acceptance and approval ratings (ie: market saturation) were much higher.

I'm a little biased to my love for Windows 7 since it lets me skip Vista and is actually as fast as XP with many things, and will be even faster when video drivers and DirectX 11 adoption/usage mature with it over time.

Those names are really Windows 2.1x.

Wikipedia said:
Less than a year after the release of Windows 2.0, Windows/286 2.10 and Windows/386 2.10 were released on 27 May 1988. These versions can take advantage of the specific features of the Intel 80286 and Intel 80386 processors.

Why would XP 64-bit be bad? Driver support?

Partly. It was poor timing for its release when 64-bit operating systems were not common. Everything from driver to software incompatibilities wreaked havoc in this OS. It wasn't completely Microsoft's fault, but it was their poor timing and poor support of the OS (between Microsoft and third parties) that lead to its downfall.

Fortunately for Vista and Windows 7, Microsoft did a better job of letting 32-bit and 64-bit processes work together.

You are right, of course. But me and all the other users I knew the, we were always talking about Win286 or Win386. That's how we new them.

Windows Vista ended up being a very nice stable os while I had it. I had it till after Christmas 2014 when I bought my HP Envy witch has Windows 8.1. I hate people who bash on Windows.
