Solved 2x BSOD after updating Windows 8 to 8.1

Sorry! but what was the "data collection tool" again ?

Driver verifier results

have run DRIVER VERIFIER

Before starting I plugged in:

both external drives
both MP3 players
switched on older HP printer (used up to now without problem)
switched on a Canon combination scanner/printer - had not used this since last W8 Restore (but had been used before this okay) - first PC crash came while automatic install of driver

Screen went blue 6 times (once or twice while trying out a driver scan with software - and once as above - and once after I clicked on USB Icon) - text blue on screen was blurred each time - unreadable

managed to copy the 6 minidumps before a final windows smiley BSOD crash: DriverVerifier_IOManager_Violation

computer went into automatic restore - then set computer back to an earlier date - ***however computer is not working correctly****

URGENT QUESTION: how do I stop the Driver verifier now - stop it from creating crashes

possibly I might have to do another Windows 8 Restore

other two dmp as zip

two remaining dmp files as zip

****Driver verifier crashes seem to have stopped now after last windows smiley crash and returning system to earlier date****

updated driver for Canon scanner/printer (did check via Device Manager - also no other conflicts/problems shown)

ran sfc /scannow = no problems

USB Disconnect Icon still responding very slowly in comparison to how it worked in Windows 8 (even when MP3 is not connected) - still gives problem with MP3 connection/charging

possibly I might have to do another Windows 8 Restore???? start clean again???

Waiting to hear what the results of dmp crash results are before doing anything else

Data collection tool is this: http://www.eightforums.com/bsod-cra...e-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html But there's no need for it as you've uploaded the dump files.

To stop Driver Verifier: open up verifier.exe and select "Delete existing settings", click on "Finish", and then reboot for the changes to take effect.

All of the memory dumps blame avc3.sys - a driver component of your BitDefender program. Please uninstall it immediately (you can use Windows Defender and the Windows Firewall while testing - make sure that they are turned on). You may want to use this free procedure and removal tool to ensure all traces of BitDefender are removed: How to uninstall Bitdefender

Once the system is stabilized, should you wish to continue using BitDefender, please ensure that you download/install the latest, Win8.1 compatible version.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Please note the drivers below that date from before the release of Windows 8.1 (17 Oct 2013) - check to see that each and every one is compatible w/Windows 8.1 (at the manufacturer's website). If not, you must either remove the device and it's software - or locate a Windows 8.1 compatible update on the web.

Thanks a lot for the reply and great help

Before your last Post came I had had to go back into restore of Factory Windows 8, so I am in Windows 8 at this moment.

Have a couple of questions before I update again to Windows 8.1 - want to make really sure before I take this update step again.

Situation:

Bitdefender is no longer installed (removal tool used) - instead Avast Free

I searched Google for those drivers but didn't find anything (yet).

Mouse/keyboard:

Lenovo (default) have some actual Drivers on their website - but trying to make sense of which is the correct driver is for me almost impossible - they have a couple of options. But these are called "Silver Silk Keyboard Driver" or "Black Silk USB Keyboard" or "CPP2 Lenovo Black Silk USB" - nothing about "Primax Mouse Suite driver" and this I have not found online either (yet)!

IIntel(R) Watchdog Timer Driver:

???
The only Watchdog Timer Drivers listed are from 2007/2004 nothing for Windows 8 or 8.1!

I can only hope that the software driver updaters help me here - because I am lost!

Questions:

But, were these drivers the cause of the problem with 8.1??????????

Or have we still not found the cause???????

Additional problem:

Now also problem with external Drive:

Also with all this messing about with drivers something has gone wrong with one of my 2 external drives! It no longer shows up as "online" in the "my Computer Window" - although the other is shown. In device manager it is listed, and when I click on "update driver" I get the message that the latest /right driver is installed. I plugged this external drive into another computer - but it does not show up there either! So i must have accidently done something with the driver - and have no idea how to resolve this problem (like all the rest!!).

Install ALL of the Lenovo drivers for Win8 (if you upgrade to 8.1, then install all of their drivers for 8.1).
Stick with Windows 8 until you're sure that it is stable.

If this doesn't update the Intel Watchdog Timer driver, we'll leave it alone for now.
Here's the US download page for your model: Drivers and software - Lenovo H430 Desktop
I have a link to a post detailing the Asus version (which may be useable on your system) - but we'll hold off on that for the time being: https://communities.intel.com/message/139605 (post #6)
Marco Antonio dos Santos Silva Apr 9, 2013 5:12 PM (in response to GWADAKILLER) Hi,

In my case, reinstalling ASUS AI Suite II also reinstalled "Intel® Watchdog Timer Driver (Intel® WDT)".

The "standalone" install is at "<ASUS AI Suite II Install folder>\TurboV EVO\AppSetup\ICCWDTInstall\", if you want to install only this missed component.

Hope it helps

We don't know exactly what the problem(s) was (were). We point out likely problem areas and work from there.
The last sets of BSOD's were caused by avc3.sys (BitDefender) - so removing them should stop any BSOD's that were caused by them. We are unsure of the cause of the BSOD's previous to that, but I still suspect the BitDefender. The test is to let the 8.1 system run for a while to see if the BSOD's have stopped.

Try both of the keyboard/mouse drivers. I'm unable to extract the contents of the downloaded files, so I can't see what's inside them. It's most likely that Lenovo bought the rights to the Primax drivers and uses them in their driver packages.

What is the make/model of the external drive?
In most cases this is due to a bad cable - so please try another cable.
If it still isn't recognized on 2 different computers, then I'd have to suspect that there's a problem with the drive itself.
I'd try to run hardware diagnostics on it ( Hard Drive Diagnostic Procedure ), but this can be a problem if the drive isn't recognized.

Also, a bad drive connected to the computer can cause all sorts of problems - to include BSOD's. Please leave it unplugged while we're testing.

In summary:
- stay with Win8 until you know the system is stable
- update ALL Win8 drivers from the Lenovo website
- disconnect the malfunctioning external drive until we're sure the system is stable

Once that is done, then it should be safe to update to Win8.1
- be sure to update ALL of the 8.1 drivers listed on the Lenovo website
- leave the malfunctioning external drive disconnected until we're sure that the system is stable

If interested in testing the malfunctioning external drive:
- be advised that there is a risk of data loss when using the drive - even if you don't specifically write to it.
- if willing to accept that risk, then leave the external drive attached to another computer to see if it causes problems there.

(First) Windows 8 BSOD CRASH (Windows Smiley blue screen) NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM

Windows 8 crashed after waking from sleep (not the first time problem after waking from sleep)

SITUATION:

  1. Stayed in Windows 8 to see if this was stable
  2. Installed all the software I normally use on computer (most of which have already functioned earlier on Windows 8 - before release of W8.1)
  3. External USB 3.0 Drive (1500 GB) brought back “Online” on a Windows 7 computer with help from MiniTool Partition Wizard – now functions okay on that W7 computer without problems – has not been reconnected to my Windows 8 computer – was not connected at time of crash!

Uploaded is dmp crash document + 2x Word doc. With Protocols from Today ( 07/01/14)

Will do and post a sfc /scannow result after posting this

Way, way too many problems here.
Please take this one step at a time and don't install a bunch of stuff at one time.

This error is related to the file system (NTFS) on a hard drive.
Start by checking all hard drives with these free tools: Hard Drive Diagnostic Procedure

What OS did this system come with? Do you still have the original Lenovo recovery disks?

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Please do not mess around in the registry - there's no need for it at this point
The Sonic driver (PxHlpa64.sys) is from a program on your computer - it is not a hardware device. You should uninstall the CD/DVD writing programs to see if that removes it. I am not very worried about this driver as it doesn't always show up in the memory dumps.

I do have concerns about the lirsgt.sys and atksgt drivers (part of a copy protection program)

I also have concerns about ICCWDT.sys as my research seems to indicate that it is only for Win7 and earlier. This program seems to contain the latest version (but I can't extract it): https://downloadcenter.intel.com/De...3&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows 8*&DownloadType=

What OS did this system come with? Do you still have the original Lenovo recovery disks?

Please provide this information so we can provide a complete analysis (from the Pinned Topic at the top of the forum): http://www.eightforums.com/bsod-cra...e-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html

Intel(R) Watchdog Timer Driver (Intel(R) WDT)

According to this webpage: What is iccwdt.sys from Intel Corporation? (id:9538258) is also for Windows 8

Contacted TAGES, the AAA Copy Protection System about their Driver – waiting answer

Contacted Lenovo Support about drivers and problems and crashes
Support person said the above driver is part of the “Chipset” driver.

He recommended that I update to Windows 8.1 and then install 1) the W8.1 Chipset driver first - 2) then the 8.1 Graphic Card driver - and - 3) then the 8.1 Audio - and all the other 8.1 drivers - 4) LAN 5) keyboard/mouse 6) Card Reader [ 7) I do not need the Storage Driver – but could update if I wanted – will not do this at first ]

This is what I will do tomorrow – although I did this last time and the computer still crashed - this will at least make sure all the system drivers are correct – and hope for the best
