2 issues: Device Manager Crashing and Ext HD disconnects

thanks. I'll Run that crystal disk software.

I'm just about done copying all my files from the external to the internal drive. It's still going on usb2.0...

I dont think its a cable issue. The Drive seems to be working fine hooked up in the USB 2.0 plug. I'm using the same cable i was using for the usb 3...

I cant seem to find any firmware for my motherboard USB 3 manufacturer. I think my sabertooth x79 uses asmedia usb 3.0 controllers. Theres no usb firmware update on Asus website. I'll try to reinstall the USB drivers and a few other things Tomorrow and See if that does anything.

but yeah device manager is still crashing. usb 3.0 external still not working but its working in usb 2.0 no problem

Thanks for all the help. My system is definitely cleaner after everything i did.

For USB3, there's 9 pins used. For USB2, 4 pins used. If it works with USB2, does not mean it's not bad for USB3.

Here's an additional line of attack (debug)
Disconnect all external devices not absolutely needed. Boot into safe mode. Does the problem still occur??

If yes, can you disable USB 3.0 in BIOS. If yes, do it. If not, can you get into Dev Mgr to disable USB 3.0 there? If yes, do it. Then reboot and in safe mode. Does same problem still occur?
