10 stupid things 'experts' try to tell you about Microsoft

In Silicon Valley (and in media satellites that take the NoCal mindset to New York and beyond), everyone has an iPhone, a MacBook Pro, and a Gmail account. Microsoft products and services might as well be from Mars. So be skeptical when you read analyses or predictions of what's coming next from Redmond.

Thanks to you all for my daily lesson; learned a great deal on SSDs.

But we did forget one thing that might to some be important, SSD 's tend not to give a warning when they are going. They just fail. In that category, SSD's are not as polite as HDD's. HDD's tend to give warnings that yes I am failing.

For me? I would rather have the space than speed. I even disabled my fast boot. Which reminds me, there are those that yelled about no start button, but why no hollering over F8? (I know off topic!)

Now RAM and virtual...so far I have not had any issues, but I run Linux which is nicer on resources. But I did say whatever Microsoft suggests, double it...and now I believe that the old rule of thumb is too low.

Agreed.

I can't justify spending $X on an SSD when I can get 20x the amount of HDD storage for the same price.

Perhaps most people have never needed to use "F8".
People start "screaming" when they need to use it and they discover that it doesn't work.

It was another "brilliant improvement" to ensure that "F8" is only accessible when your PC is working correctly (i.e. when you don't need it).

I agree as well. SSD is not really (at this time) meant for storage space.
Just for the OS/Software side of things. It is definitely worth it there.

Usually an SSD would give signs too, but it's been the controllers which have died in the past.

People's needs are different. On a desktop, where I can have both I run an SSD and a hdd. All problems solved. For things like laptops, I get biggest SSD I can afford and then add external drive for storage if necessary.
