Try this. First hit on Google:

    download.microsoft.com/download/F/2/4/F24D0C03-4181-4E5B-A23B-5C3A6B5974E3/apps.diagcab

I ran the App diagnostic and it disabled the apps that were crashing. I needed to uninstall and reload them.

    from:

Windows 8 apps crash immediately after opening - Microsoft Community

First reply. I am working my way down through the web page so there may be more to come.

EDIT: Check startup items. I had an Intel delayed launch added to my startup without me knowing it. I disabled it. Someone said that a start item prevented the apps from running. Nope, this did not fix it.

EDIT: If it is a live tile and is NOT on the Windows Firewall allowed apps, they will not work.

    I'm running 8.1 Pro in a VM.
Nearly every time I run Win 8.1 one or more of the Bing Apps attempts to open but then crashes back to the Desktop.
However when I've gone to the 'task switcher' I've noticed that it's actually still there, just unopened.
When I click on it it then loads correctly.

The crashing is almost like the App is not given enough time to load.

Huh, someone else was playing with administrative privileges, putting the Live ID to Admin, and the apps crashed. Somebody had this...

Quote:"I was working perfectly, then I decided to "elevate" my live ID account to admin on the PC, and that's where the problem started with the apps crashing.
I tried to downgrade the account to just user, and it doesn't fix the issue. Just keeps crashing... can't even check the built in weather account."

Not for me. I just tried Health&fitness. Crashed to desktop but NOT in running tasks in either task switcher or Task manager. Does anyone else find if you do Alt+Tab that you see your app?

EDIT: there was an x on the health and fitness app when I went back so at least it knew it was broke.

I can confirm that the apps are in the apps' task bar on the left-hand side of the screen even after crashing. When I click-reopen them from there, they crash all over again.

I now installed the latest Asrock drivers for my mainboard that were released 2 days ago. Let's see if they help (if it's really a hardware/driver issue, they should). In any case, my board has the Windows 8.1 compatibility sticker.

Breaking news: Microsoft pushed a critical update to my computer that addresses the Metro app crash of Skype:

When you start the Skype Windows Store app in Windows 8.1 or in Windows Server 2012 R2, the app immediately crashes, and Windows returns to the Start screen.

    Cause
This issue occurs when the computer uses an Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000 (Sandy Bridge) graphics device.
    Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the update that is described in the "Update information" section.
Source: Skype Windows Store app crashes in Windows 8.1 and in Windows Server 2012 R2

The Intel HD onboard graphic chips are very widespread, millions of computers, especially laptops, must have been equipped with such integrated-graphics CPUs. Hence, this update shows that the problems described in this thread are NOT just a narrow issue concerning just a small fraction of the PC population, as some have falsely claimed earlier in this thread. In fact, my computer has the HD 4000 which is not mentioned in the article but also concerned by the crashes. It's good that finally something is happening now. Let's wait to see if (or rather when) they release patches for the other apps. Or perhaps the patch fixes all the apps in one fell swoop? No crashes for me yet.

I too upgraded to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8, and I'm experiencing the same problem, even after doing everything at Apps and Tiles Not Working or Responding: Fix in Windows 8 apart from refreshing.

sfc /scannow did not fix the problem either.

hey guys, I'm also having the same problem. Some apps like weather and people used to work. But now mostly all the apps are crashing. Even the apps that I installed recently(Six Guns game, calculator hd) aren't working. Whenever I run any app it crashes, although it's visible in the running apps list in the sidebar. When I open the app again from the sidebar, the result is the same.
    Thanks..

lolol, welcome to the Windows 8 Forums! Yes, an all too common occurrence. You may want to read through the entire post here to see what has helped other posters. For instance, my post #71 fixed my issues. some just need to uninstall and reinstall their apps (bottom of the screen, uninstall this app. reinstall it from the store). good luck!

    Hi friends,

Same problem here. I just noticed in Device Manager that I have 2 graphic cards installed on my laptop. One is Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000, and the other is NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M LE. So the problem may relate to these 2 operating simultaneously. I have tried to uninstall the Intel(R) driver several times to no avail. After uninstalling and restarting the laptop, it shows up again in Device Manager!!! Even Windows Update gives me updates for both of them...

How should I delete one of them? At least the Intel one? Thank you...
