    I've come to a realization . . . .

The problem is that most people don't even know that there are alternatives available and wouldn't know what to do with them if they did know. The whole gist of this thread is that most computer users blindly accept whatever is put in front of them.

Maybe the plan is to drive people to Linux.

    I've come to a realization . . . .

I remember the good old days when there were no standards, even de facto standards and nothing worked with anything else. Yes, those standards are evil.

Please name a car/country where the gas is on the left and the brake is on the right.

    I've come to a realization . . . .

The manual for my 1979 BMW was about 100 pages and explained things like how to adjust the brakes. Not long ago I was renting a new Nissan and the manual was like yours, the size of a phone book. I had that car for two weeks and never did figure out how everything worked.

    I've come to a realization . . . .

The school where I teach my classes is a high school and you can get to YouTube, Facebook, Skype and all those other distracting sites.

    I've come to a realization . . . .

You must be a psychologist. I asked, "Why wouldn't your car be damaged?"

    I've come to a realization . . . .

It's an urban myth that car manufacturers are required to keep parts in stock for 10 years. They have to be able to supply parts during the warranty period but they can get them from third party vendors.

    I've come to a realization . . . .

Here's a sad example of what people use their computers for and why they know so little about anything other than Facebook and Skype. In 2011 my daughter started college and needed the obligatory laptop computer. Last year she told me that she needed a new computer and I asked why. Not...

    I've come to a realization . . . .

There are stupid questions like, "If I go off the track and hit that tree will it damage my car?" There are also stupid people who ask questions and then ignore you while you are answering the question.

    I've come to a realization . . . .

Not my concern anymore than it's my concern if they want to buy a Fiat. The majority of people who use computers for school primarily use them for email and games too. They don't want to know, anymore than they want to know why they should downshift on a hill or why they should turn into a...

    I've come to a realization . . . .

I also like having the clutch on the left, brake in the middle and gas on the right. If I got into a car and those three things were in different places, I wouldn't like that at all. I guess I am an old fogey. One of the things that you learn as you age is that change for the sake of...

    I've come to a realization . . . .

Actually, it's been developing over a long time and that realization is that most people are too stupid to really know how to use their computers or what goes on with their computers and really don't want to know. Surprisingly, this includes much of the supposedly "tech-savvy" younger...

Tech. Support Scam from India support bases.

Oh, for the good old days. Many, many years ago, I bought a Gateway 2000 computer and when I called for tech support it was free and the tech was in Kansas City. The great thing about American tech support is that if you've already done some trouble shooting on your own, they can go...
