Post your Start Screen!

Yep, that's exactly how you get that. The rows are screen resolution dependent, but if you have five rows, you can't get six, I've already tried.

YES!

What is that app? Just curious if it's for tiles.

A hint:
I see the rest is still in black-red... you probably go similar cursors already:
Looks like aero7 but the colors are right.

Some look bad (picture is re-scaled) but the rest is right.
The Win8 version is not yet available but you get the idea.

Ooohh, I haven't looked into cursors yet for 8, but I like that red and black set! I do believe the app is called Custom Tile Maker, something of that sort. It has the Microsoft logo except it's magenta. That is the one.

But for some reason, even though it says it's free, you can't yet to a 5 row pattern as it says to buy a custom tiles pack for $1.49. Seems like the app is still being worked on a bit.

@Coke Robot
Thanks for the info. I made those cursors a while ago. It's a derivative from the main theme: orange-gold, blue-cyan and red-yellow ones were also made, some look better than others.

@Kat
Looks nice and old but somehow resembles the 8 RTM aero. He he :D.

I'd love to see some more metro styled cursors, like instead of a flattened Areo loading animation, it could be the little metro loading circle animation and such. And in complementary colors to the Start Screen of course. :)

Request answered in Forum Totorial.

Hello Prospero, I very much like your layout. I've ordered my copy of W8 and will install it a.s.a.p but in the meantime I'm finding out all I can to help me during early use of the new OS. I've just finished reading The Complete Guide to Windows 8 which unfortunately is anything but. As a fellow Silver Surfer of quite advanced years may I request a brief guide to how you achieved your Start Screen set-up please. Am I correct in assuming you needed first to create shortcuts to the Start Screen for all items show; and how did you group and entitled them.
I shall be using W8 with standard keyboard & mouse only. Thank you in anticipation of your kind reply.
My regards.
Yorky.

Jumped before I looked I'm afraid. Shortly after posting this I found the complete answer to my question and more besides in the excellent Tutorials within this Forum. Nevertheless, my thanks anyway and of course to the Tutorials. I can see that this Forum is going to be my first Port of Call on what may be many choppy seas while I learn the ropes.

Everything is possible in graphic editing, yes, the flattened aero loading is the one on the cursor: aero-flat.png
But where do you see the little metro loading circle animation? Sorry I rarely use apps.
To use that one you'll need to know where the files are, like for example the cursors are in c:\Window\Cursors, or at least export the desired animation somehow.

Thanks. Ah that one! Indeed, it's all over the place. But you're right it looks good as animation.

We'll just need to find where it's located or create it from scratch.

Edit:
This site has what we need: Preloaders.net - windows 8 loading animation
You can choose colors, generate gif or animated png and your good to go (for cursor editing). I'll see what I can do.

Is it just me or does anyone else find all the start screens shown in this thread bloody awful?
I'm still trying to decide if i'm going to upgrade my main pc to win8. It has 3 x 27" screens with some nice wallpapers that stretches across all 3, i really don't fancy the so far bloody awful start screen on one of them. Why the hell can't i customise the size of the icons to WHAT I WANT NOT WHAT MICROSOFT SAYS I WANT.
